A real case. A real lesson.

A patient with severe foot infection was treated multiple times without early referral, until it progressed to wet gangrene and eventually amputation.

Diabetic foot infection is not “just a wound”.
Delays in referral and treatment can cost a limb, mobility, quality of life, and sometimes even life itself.

As doctors, we may not manage every condition ourselves and that is okay. What matters most is recognizing red flags early and referring promptly when needed.

Early referral allows:
• Better infection control
• Early vascular assessment
• Limb salvage options
• Reduced risk of major amputation

Time is tissue.
When in doubt, refer early.

She came to us wheelchair bound with severe knee pain, worried and reluctant about surgery. After assessment, we proceeded with a simple daycare procedure under local anaesthesia.

The best part? She was able to stand and walk immediately after the procedure.

Many people still believe eating egg or chicken can make wounds “bernanah” or infected.
Actually, the opposite is true.

Eggs and chicken are rich in protein, which helps tissue repair, immune function, and wound healing.
What really delays healing?

❌ Poor blood sugar control
❌ Poor circulation
❌ Infection from bacteria
❌ Delayed proper wound care

Good nutrition is part of good wound healing.
Don’t avoid protein during recovery. Focus on proper treatment, proper wound care, and proper sugar control.
