This is such an interesting topic to discuss, isn't it?
The issue with positive thinking is that it operates at the surface level. It does nothing to contend with the subconscious mind where negative self-talk and limiting beliefs really live.
Research shows that our view of the world has a fundamental tendency to lean towards the negative. It's pretty easy to go from good to bad, but far harder to shift from bad to good. We have to work much harder to see the upside of things. This is because our brain is hardwired to use negativity as a defense mechanism. It is trying to protect us.
The last four years has been the toughest and most stressful time of my life and I have many a time felt lost and helpless. That said, I have been observing how I've been coping and I realise that, instead of trying to talk myself into shifting to the positive, it has been a lot easier if push myself to move, to dance or even walk off stress and negative thoughts. After all, movement improves blood flow and oxygen to our brain and hence triggering the release of endorphins and serotonin, the βfeel goodβ hormones into our body.
