🇲🇾 MERDEKA | CAKAP | MAKAN
We Malaysians are quite good at this.
We cakap. We makan. Then somehow while makan, we cakap some more 😄
Maybe that's not such a bad thing because some of our most useful human infrastructure isn't made of concrete.
It's the people we can call.
The friends who notice.
The family who checks in.
The colleague who asks, “You OK or not?”
The table where people stay long enough to actually talk.
We spend a lot of time thinking about what makes a country strong:
Good roads.
Healthcare.
Education.
Businesses.
Technology.
Strong institutions.
ALL IMPORTANT but who keeps all these systems running? PEOPLE!!!
People need infrastructure too.
Enough physical capacity to function.
Enough emotional capacity to cope.
Enough resources for life's demands.
Time to recover.
People to rely on.
A sense of belonging.
The ability to adapt when life suddenly says, “Eh, change plan.” 😅
That is part of Human Sustainability.
A successful country cannot depend indefinitely on exhausted people.
So between Merdeka 🇲🇾 and Hari Malaysia, maybe we can cakap about something beyond how our country is doing.
We can also ask:
How are our people, really?
Start over makan. No need formal meeting lah. 😉
Ask someone:
“What is draining you these days?”
“What is keeping you going?”
“What do you need more of?”
Then listen.
Sometimes support doesn't begin with having the answer. It begins when somebody has enough space to cakap and someone else stays to listen.
Cakap first. Makan definitely. 😄
Strong countries need sustainable humans too!
