Many people see Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad & Tun Dr Siti Hasmah as the perfect couple.
But their love story didn’t start perfectly.
When they were medical students in Singapore, Mahathir tried to get closer to Siti Hasmah.
Not flowers. Not expensive gifts.
But… TUITION. 😂
He helped her with Physics & Chemistry. In her 2016 memoir, My Name is Hasmah, Siti Hasmah affectionately called him her “hero”, remembering how he helped her when she struggled with her studies.
That touched me.
Because sometimes, love doesn’t begin with grand gestures. It begins with someone helping you through the difficult little things.
They argued too. But after arguing, they would go out for a meal and make peace. ❤️
Mahathir was very punctual, while Siti Hasmah took longer to get ready. 😂 After decades together, he simply learned to be patient.
“If she is like that, what can we do?”
Maybe that’s the secret.
Not finding a perfect partner, but learning to accept the person you chose to walk through life with.
They shared the big milestones, but also the ordinary struggles. They supported each other, grew together, and kept walking side by side for seven decades. ❤️🥹🌹
Before the titles, fame and achievements…
they were simply two young medical students who found each other.
Studied together. Helped each other. Fell in love.
And after an entire lifetime, they’re still walking together.
Maybe that’s the most beautiful kind of love. ❤️
