Obesity isn’t just about appearance. It can be associated with health concerns that aren’t always visible. These may include type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnoea, heart disease, joint problems, fatty liver disease and depression, among others.

This conversation isn’t about judging anyone’s body or appearance. You can feel comfortable in your body while still being intentional about your health. Body acceptance and health awareness can exist side by side.

So the conversation goes beyond “How do I look?” It can also be: “How is my overall health?”

If you have concerns about your weight or health, speaking with a qualified healthcare professional can help you understand your individual risk factors and make informed decisions about your health.

Not all physical activities burn the same amount of energy. Factors like intensity, duration and consistency can make a big difference.

From walking and yoga to cycling, pilates and running, we’ve ranked these activities based on how much they can contribute to your weight management journey.

But remember, exercise is only one part of the equation. Your nutrition, overall daily activity, sleep and consistency all play important roles too.

So before you pick an exercise simply because it ranks highest, consider what you can realistically do consistently.

Watch till the end to see where your favorite activity ranks.

For many people, the hardest part isn’t losing weight, it’s maintaining the progress afterwards.

When a weight-loss treatment is stopped without a proper maintenance plan, appetite may return, old eating patterns can creep back in and some people may regain part or all of the weight they lost.

A doctor-led weight management programme gives you the support and structure to understand your body, improve your eating habits, monitor your progress and develop strategies that can help you maintain your results long-term.

At Getslim, our approach goes beyond the treatment itself. You have access to medical supervision, dietitian support, regular monitoring and personalised guidance throughout your journey.

If you’re struggling with your weight or unsure about the best approach for you, send us a DM to book a consultation and get started with a doctor-led plan tailored to you.

One thing we don’t talk about enough when discussing childhood obesity is the school food environment.

For many children, especially those in boarding schools, most of their meals happen away from home. Sometimes, they leave for school and return home for the holidays noticeably bigger than when they left.

Weight gain isn’t caused by one food or one meal. But a consistent diet high in fried foods, pastries, sweets, biscuits and sugary drinks can contribute to unhealthy weight gain over time.
If these are the easiest foods available at school, we shouldn’t be surprised when children consume them regularly.

Schools have a responsibility too. School feeding should prioritise nutritious, balanced meals, not simply what is cheap, convenient or popular.
Ideally, school feeding programmes should be planned and supervised by a qualified dietitian or nutrition professional.
Because feeding children isn’t just about keeping them full, It’s about feeding them well.

When children spend most of their day or their entire term at school, the food environment there matters.

The desire to lose pregnancy weight is completely normal, but if you’re breastfeeding, this is usually not the time for weight loss interventions.

Most weight loss medications, gastric balloons and bariatric surgery are generally not recommended while breastfeeding because your baby’s safety and your nutritional needs come first.

That doesn’t mean you should put your health on hold. You can focus on eating nourishing meals, staying hydrated, moving your body as you’re able and allowing yourself time to recover. These healthy habits can support your wellbeing while you breastfeed.

When you’ve finished breastfeeding, speak with your doctor about the safest and most appropriate weight loss options for you.

This World Breastfeeding Week, remember: your body has done something incredible. Give it the care, patience and kindness it deserves.

You’ve probably heard someone say they stopped eating rice to lose weight .
But the truth is, rice isn’t the problem. The way most people serve it often is.

A typical plate looks like this:
- A mountain of rice with oily stew
- Just a few pieces of protein
- No vegetables
That combination fills you up with mostly carbohydrates, leaves you hungry again sooner and makes it much easier to eat more calories than your body needs.

Instead of removing rice completely, try changing how you build your plate.
- Control your rice portion.
- Make protein the star of the meal.
- Add plenty of vegetables.
The goal isn’t to fear rice. The goal is to create a meal that keeps you fuller for longer, gives your body the nutrients it needs and makes weight loss easier to maintain.

Remember, no single food causes weight gain. It’s your overall eating pattern that matters most.
So yes, you can enjoy your rice during your weight loss journey, just don’t let it take over the entire plate.
