Nigeria is taking big steps to protect women and girls, with goals to vaccinate 90% of eligible girls, screen 70% of women, and treat 90% of cases by 2030.

Caregivers are encouraged to take girls aged nine to the nearest Primary Health Care Centre for free HPV vaccination, while women are advised to book a cervical cancer screening early.

Prevention saves lives will you save yours?💚✨

Webinar: A Case for Sustained HPV Vaccine in Nigeria

Speaking on funding, Mrs. Chika Nwankwo underscored the urgent need for predictable, sustainable funding for HPV vaccines.

She explained how vaccine procurement works, Nigeria’s co-financing obligations, and why routinization requires consistent investment in cold chain, logistics, and supply.

She called on CSOs to lend our voices to legislative reforms, such as the National Health Act Amendment Bill, and strengthen advocacy at national and subnational levels to secure long-term vaccine funding.

Webinar: A Case for Sustained HPV Vaccine in Nigeria

Dr. Akinpelu Adetola shared how Lagos is leveraging its vibrant private sector to reach more children with immunization.

From partnering with private clinics and logistics firms to collaborating with social media influencers and transport companies, the state is tapping into the rich value in public–private partnerships (PPPs) to close service delivery gaps and access hard-to-reach communities.

He emphasized the need for dedicated budget lines and innovative financing models, such as basket funds that pool resources from philanthropists and private organizations, to support HPV and routine immunization programs.

Importantly, he noted that communities must be fully involved, understand the value of HPV vaccination, and actively demand the services that protect them. Their ownership, he stressed, is essential for sustained uptake.

Webinar: A Case for Sustained HPV Vaccine in Nigeria

Mr. Nasir Kabir highlighted Kano State’s success story of achieving 94% coverage during the MAC campaign through a coordinated task-force engagement and community structures.

He emphasized the need to formalize an MOU with the Ministry of Education to institutionalize HPV vaccination delivery in schools through the state’s existing school health program.

He also noted that sustaining high coverage requires better alignment of partner efforts—from supporting health worker training to strengthening community structures and closing data gaps.

With rapid response teams tackling misinformation and strong engagement from the Emirate Council and community leaders, Kano is working to ensure no eligible girl is missed.
