A New Partnership. A Shared Commitment to Impact.

We are pleased to announce a new partnership between Talks of Reality International (TOR) and The Policy Tank | Policy India.

This partnership brings together two organisations with a shared commitment to creating opportunities for young people to engage with policy, leadership, research, advocacy and social impact.

Through this collaboration, we will explore joint research, policy conversations, media initiatives, youth engagement programmes and advocacy efforts that connect ideas with the people and communities they are meant to serve.

From Africa to Asia, we are creating space for knowledge exchange, collaboration and meaningful action.

Together, we look forward to turning conversations into knowledge, and knowledge into impact.

Young people are not waiting for permission anymore. But we need to know where to knock.

One of the biggest takeaways from the Evening Chat was that many young people genuinely want to contribute.

The problem is often not a lack of interest.

It is a lack of access, information and pathways.

A young graduate may want to contribute to policy but doesn’t know where to start.

A young entrepreneur may care deeply about economic policy but has never been part of a policy conversation.

A student may want to engage in governance but does not understand how local institutions work.

That gap matters.

Because you cannot participate meaningfully in systems you do not understand.

And that is why spaces like the Evening Chat matter.

Sometimes what a young person needs is not another motivational speech.

They need someone to explain how the system actually works.

They need a map.

They need relationships.

They need exposure.

They need the confidence to step forward.

That is the kind of leadership ecosystem we want to keep building.

Yesterday, we discussed what it really means to move from online activism to real-life civic engagement.

Because sustainable change requires more than hashtags.

It requires people who are willing to knock on doors, organise communities, study policies, engage institutions, build coalitions and stay involved even when the excitement fades.

And that part is hard.

It takes patience.
It takes consistency.
It takes organising.
It takes people who are willing to do the work even when nobody is watching.

For us at Talks of Reality International, this is the kind of leadership we want to keep encouraging.

Not performative leadership.

Participatory leadership.

Not just people who know what is wrong.

People who are willing to help build what comes next.

When we announced Evening Chat, Makurdi around the theme “Policies Over Politics,” we knew we were stepping into a conversation that would get people thinking.

Because in Nigeria, politics is everywhere.

On our streets.
On our timelines.
In our homes.
In our conversations.

But somewhere along the line, we have spent so much time arguing about politicians that we sometimes forget to ask the more important question: What policies are actually shaping our lives?

That was the heart of our conversation in Makurdi.

We talked about young people and governance. We talked about participation beyond voting. We talked about policy, power, civic responsibility, political structures and the realities young Nigerians face when they try to get involved.

There were questions. There were disagreements. There were different perspectives.

And that was exactly the point.

A healthy democracy needs people who can sit in the same room, disagree respectfully, listen carefully and still leave committed to the same goal: building a better society.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, spoke up, challenged ideas and stayed engaged.

This was more than an event.

It was a reminder that young people must not only inherit the future. We must participate in shaping it.

Happy International Youth Day! 🌍

Young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow. We are already building, questioning, innovating and shaping the world around us today.

That is exactly why I’m excited about the calibre of young voices joining us at this Friday’s Evening Chat – Makurdi.

We have Dr. Terese Shadrach Akpem, veterinarian, social entrepreneur, digital innovator and founder of Vet Konect, as well as a 2023 Mandela Washington Fellow.

Joining him are Benjamin Terver Yager, a development practitioner working around programmes, partnerships and the SDGs in Benue, with a strong focus on youth, innovation and sustainable development;

And Pranav Sharma, Founder of The Policy Tank, India, an international think tank working across public policy, governance, research, leadership and strategic collaboration.

These are young people bringing different experiences to one important conversation: how do we move from talking about change to actually influencing the systems that shape our lives?
