The DSCHC is dedicated to making healthcare easier and better for all enrollees by setting up special Health Insurance Units (HIUs) right inside every accredited hospital across the state.
These units will serve as the essential first stop when seeking hospital care. Their core job is to quickly complete patient verification, offer the initial medical consultation and basic primary care, and provide important health tips. To ensure the setup of these unit, the DSCHC recently paid visits to key facilities, including the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, and the General Hospital, Okwe, on October 27th, for the establishment and operational readiness of the HIUs.
This effort ensures that health coverage immediately becomes a helpful resource, guaranteeing fast and easy access to the care needed.
Setting up the HIUs is a smart way to help the entire health system run more smoothly. By managing the first point of contact and basic services, the units act as a helpful guide, which prevents unnecessary delays and stress by making sure patients are directed to the right type of doctor or specialist.
This focused approach also helps to reduce expensive, unneeded referrals, keeping the whole system efficient and well-coordinated. Ultimately, launching these units reinforces the strong commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and fulfilling the goal of "Health for All Deltans," which is designed to build greater public trust and confidence in the state's health program.
