PAD UP Global Initiative Marks World Menstrual Hygiene Day at FOMWAN Muslim School đź’ś

With Eid’l Adha Mubarak!

The spirit of Eid’l Adha is sacrifice, compassion, and community. On May 28th, PAD UP Global Initiative honored that spirit by marking World Menstrual Hygiene Day with the Muslim girls of FOMWAN Muslim School. It felt right to celebrate this season by investing in the health, dignity, and education of young girls — a form of care and sacrifice for the next generation.

On May 28th, our team visited the school for a day centered on menstrual cycle sensitization. The goal was simple but urgent: break the silence around menstruation, promote good hygiene practices, and ensure that no girl misses school because of her period.

The founder of PAD UP Global Initiative, Comrade Queen Oriakhi, led a comprehensive sensitization session for the female students, breaking down menstrual health and hygiene in clear, relatable terms. She addressed common myths, explained the menstrual cycle, and walked the girls through proper hygiene practices and the correct use and disposal of sanitary products.

To make the session culturally grounded and holistic, an invited guest speaker, Mrs Jaji Ramotu, complemented the program by addressing menstrual hygiene from the Islamic perspective. The speaker guided the girls on the _Do’s and Don’ts_ according to Islamic teachings, emphasizing that cleanliness is both a religious obligation and a personal right. This added layer helped the students connect health practices with their values and daily lives.

The program was interactive and impactful. After the knowledge-sharing session, the PAD UP team distributed 300 sanitary pads and 200 exercise notebooks to the students, ensuring they left not only informed but also equipped for the month ahead. By combining education with material support, the initiative aimed to reduce absenteeism and help the girls stay focused on their studies with confidence and dignity.

The event concluded on a high note with a group photo session involving the students, teachers, and PAD UP Global Initiative team members. The school staff expressed appreciation for the practical support and the safe space created for open conversation.

PAD UP Global Initiative continues to call on individuals, schools, and partners to support efforts that keep girls in school and empower them with the knowledge and resources they deserve.

WOMAN

She represents the epitome of creation,
Eliminates the dreamy thought of God's perfection.
Propagates the virtues the world desires,
Yes! That's woman, the one nature admires.

In dexterity she broke the fetter
That bound the world and made things better.
As the man's companion,
She became the champion.

How is the world without a woman? Vagueness
How is the child without a woman? Viciousness
How is the man without a woman? Emptiness
Thus, in her is an embodiment of tenderness!

Evil; she brought sins and we became enslaved
But through her came the 'Light' for whose sake the world is saved.
It's truism she led us astray
But through her came the 'saviour' that came to show us the way!

Because of a woman, we all dwell in pleasure
With love and affection superseding any treasure.
Show me the one without a woman around
And yet live and look sound!

She may be anything but never compromise her probity
Believe it or not, in womanhood is nobility.
Alas! Whatever we may chant
Willi-nilly, it's still a woman we all want!

Happy International Women's Day
