Suspected kidna99ers who abdvcted a medical doctor and his brother kllllg the younger sibling found themselves in police custody after seeking medical help from the very doctor they had terr07ized.
The incident began on January 2, 2026, when Dr. Abu Ibrahim Babatunde (also referred to as Dr. Abu Tunde or Dr. Abu Babatunde), a house officer at Edo University Teaching Hospital in Auchi, was ambvshed alongside his younger brother, Abu Tahir Babatunde, near their residence on City Pride Road in the Igbira Camp area of Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area. Armed gvnmen intercepted them, leading to their abdvction.
The kidna99ers initially demanded a staggering ransom of N200 million for the brothers' release. Despite negotiations, the situation turned tr4gic: the younger brother, Abu Tahir, was klllld in captivity, with his body later discovered near the Orley River along City Pride Road on January 5, 2026.
The abdvctors continued holding Dr. Babatunde, eventually reducing their demand. After the family supported by friends, well-wishers, organizations, and public contributions paid a reported N50 million ransom (in tranches of N20 million and N30 million), the doctor was released around January 14, 2026. He was in stable condition but required medical treatment for injvries, including a bvll3t graze, and was later discharged from the hospital.
