YOMSA IGNITE × BioRTC

On 11 August 2026, members of the YOMSA IGNITE Panel paid a courtesy visit to Professor Mahmoud Bukar Maina Director of the Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BioRTC), where we engaged in a fruitful discussion on the activities and upcoming events of the YOMSA IGNITE Fellowship Program.

The Director expressed great excitement about the initiative, describing it as a wonderful and highly intellectual program proposed by medical students. He applauded the vision behind YOMSA IGNITE and encouraged us to continue developing more initiatives that contribute meaningfully to the growth of students, the medical profession, and society.

He further assured us that BioRTC remains open and welcoming to initiatives of this nature, emphasizing its willingness to support and collaborate with us whenever such developmental programs are proposed.

At the end of the meeting, BioRTC agreed to sponsor the YOMSA IGNITE Fellowship Program and pledged to provide a suitable venue, reception, and outstanding facilitators from BioRTC and beyond to support the success of the program.

A COURTESY VISIT FILLED WITH INSIGHT, GUIDANCE & INSPIRATION

This afternoon, representatives of YOMSA-YSU, YOSUMSA, and the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Club paid a courtesy visit to the Yobe State Coordinator of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Hamisu Alhassan Dama.

The visit was facilitated by our father, mentor, and lecturer, Professor Abdulmajeed Yunusa, alongside Dr. Abubakar Bilyamimu Mu’azu. It was a truly insightful and engaging meeting, filled with valuable guidance, constructive discussions, and encouragement.

Dr. Hamisu reassured the associations of his willingness to support and collaborate with our emerging (“baby”) associations as we continue to grow, serve, and contribute meaningfully to healthcare and community development. The meeting was also remarkably friendly, cheerful, and filled with moments of laughter, creating an atmosphere that allowed us to openly share our achievements, progress, experiences, and challenges in running our respective associations.

A particularly memorable moment was the presentation of an Award of Excellence to Dr. Hamisu Alhassan Dama by the Secretary-General of YOSUMSA, Comrade Dauda Ibrahim Gado, in recognition of his remarkable efforts and contributions toward achievements and progress in Yobe State and beyond.

Dr. Hamisu warmly appreciated our efforts and commended our commitment to serving humanity despite the demanding workload and challenges that come with medical school. His words of encouragement and support were truly inspiring.

We are deeply grateful and honoured for this rare opportunity to interact with such a distinguished personality. We sincerely appreciate the warmth, kindness, hospitality, and welcoming reception extended to us by the WHO Yobe State office.

Musa Ahmad Dagona, a proud YOMSITE, delivered a powerful and thought-provoking speech at TEDx Damaturu, drawing much-needed attention to the rising prevalence of kidney diseases across some regions of Yobe State.

Through his compelling message, he called on the government, relevant authorities, and the general public to take urgent and meaningful action toward addressing this growing public health concern.

We are proud of you, Musa, for using your voice to advocate for a healthier and better Yobe State. 👏🏽
