Dee Osun Monitors Commends Adeleke-Bashiru Meeting, Demands Action on LG Funds, Orolu Constituency

The attention of Dee Osun Monitors, a non-partisan civil society group committed to good governance, accountability and the political posterity of Osun State, has been drawn to critical developments affecting the peace, governance and development of our dear state.

After careful deliberation, we hereby state as follows:

COMMENDATION OF BIPARTISAN ENGAGEMENT

We commend the recent visit of the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, to Governor Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke*l, the re-elected Executive Governor of Osun State.

We view this engagement as a welcome and commendable development. At a time when political rivalry threatens to deepen division, such dialogue between major political parties signals maturity and prioritizes the interest of Osun people above partisanship. We believe this gesture will fast-track the political posterity, stability and development of Osun State.

CALL FOR SENATORIAL ACCESSIBILITY AND ACTION ON THE SUPPRESSED OROLU STATE CONSTITUENCY

We, however, express concern over the inability of constituents to access Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Oluwole Ajagunla, the incumbent Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District.

This lack of access is improper and unacceptable. The onus of the unresolved and pending restoration of the Orolu State Constituency, which remains suppressed by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, still lies squarely on the Senator as the direct representative of the affected area.

We charge all political leaders to remain committed and available to their people for necessary dialogue and engagement on issues affecting them. Representation must be felt, not just in title.

URGENT CALL FOR STAKEHOLDER INTERVENTION ON WITHHELD LG ALLOCATION

The continued withholding of Federal Allocation to Local Governments in Osun State has become an embarrassment to democracy and a setback to governance at the grassroots.

We therefore call on all major stakeholders to rise to the occasion. Specifically, we urge the Osun State Council of Obas under the leadership of His Imperial Majesty Oba Babatunde Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja II, The Ooni of Ile-Ife, the Leadership of the Nigeria Bar Association, Osun State Chapter, and Governor Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke to, as a matter of urgency, meet with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR* to seek an instant political solution to this impasse.

A lot of activities at the local government level have been grounded, and the people at the grassroots remain the direct victims. This issue requires immediate and decisive resolution in the interest of democracy and the welfare of our people.

ADVISE TO GOVERNOR ADELEKE: FOCUS ON DELIVERABLES
Finally, we implore Governor Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke to shun distractions from political critics and remain focused on delivering on his campaign promises to the people of Osun.

Specifically, we remind Mr. Governor of two critical commitments that require urgent attention:
** The actualization of the Osun State Airport Project

** The release of the Government White Paper towards the final resolution of the Ifon, Ilobu and Erin-Osun boundary disputes.

Addressing these will enable the consolidation of his achievements and further cement his legacy as a governor committed to peace and development.

Dee Osun Monitors remains committed to monitoring governance and advocating for the interest of the masses.

Signed:

Prince Jide Akinyooye, FCA

Beyond Politics: How Osun Voters Defended Their Democratic Power

By Seyi Adeniyi (ASP)

The August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun State was about more than just a struggle for power between Accord and the APC. In many ways, it was a contest between the people and attempts by the APC to forcefully hijack the state.

In the weeks leading up to the election, Osun was engulfed in intense political activity, accusations and counter-accusations, intimidation, propaganda and efforts to instil fear among residents and voters. The atmosphere became so tense that there were concerns that the outcome might be determined not only by the votes cast at polling units, but also by the influence and actions of the powers that be.

But when the people finally got the chance to make their voices heard, they made one thing clear: real political power belongs to them.

The election became a referendum on the performance of Governor Ademola Adeleke and his administration. On one side was a government asking the people to judge it based on its record in office - roads and infrastructure, healthcare interventions, workers’ welfare, youth and women empowerment, education, social investment and other programmes. On the other side were powerful political forces seeking to wrest control of the state from the incumbent through violence.

What made the contest particularly significant was the determination of the Osun voters to resist every attempt to make them believe that their votes would not count. From the urban centres to the rural communities, voters turned out to exercise their constitutional right and make their preference known.

This was not simply about Governor Adeleke. It was about the right of the Osun people to choose their governor without coercion, intimidation or manipulation.

The election also highlighted an important truth about Nigerian politics: political structures may be powerful, but they can never replace the people. Money may draw crowds, propaganda may flood social media, and political godfathers may wield enormous influence, but at the polling unit, the ordinary voter remains the major stakeholder and determinant of who leads them.

Once again, the people of Osun proved that.

They looked beyond the political noise and judged the government based on its record. They considered the changes they had witnessed in their communities, the impact of government programmes on their lives, and the kind of future they wanted for Osun. In the end, their votes delivered the verdict.

For Governor Adeleke, the victory was more than just an election win. It confirmed a simple truth: performance is still the most powerful campaign message.

The lesson for politicians is clear: never underestimate the people.

No matter how strong the forces lined up against a government may seem, the people still hold the ultimate democratic power - the ballot. And when they choose to use it together, political calculations can change in an instant.

In that sense, the Osun election was a contest between the people and the powers that be. In the end, the people won.

It was a reminder that democracy is not really about the loudest politicians, the biggest machinery, or the most intimidating forces. It is about the people.

And in Osun, the people made themselves heard.

Adeleke at 66: Osun Labour Movement Celebrates Governor’s Pro-Workers Legacy

The organized labour movement in Osun State has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on the occasion of his 66th birthday, describing him as a transformative leader whose administration has restored dignity and stability to the state workforce.

In a jointly signed congratulatory message issued on Tuesday, the Osun State Joint Labour Movement, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JPSNC), praised the governor for prioritizing workers’ welfare and maintaining industrial harmony in the state.

The labour leaders noted that Governor Adeleke’s administration has distinguished itself through the prompt and consistent payment of workers’ salaries and pensions, as well as the systematic clearance of salary arrears inherited from previous administrations.

According to the statement, the governor’s open-door policy and regular engagement with organized labour have strengthened mutual trust between the government and civil servants, making the workforce a critical partner in the development of Osun State.

The unions also commended the administration’s ongoing infrastructure projects across the state, describing them as evidence of a commitment to socio-economic growth and modernization.

The statement described Governor Adeleke as “the authentic Workers’ Governor,” adding that his leadership style has brought hope and renewed confidence to workers and pensioners in the state.

“Your administration has broken the shackles of industrial friction, replacing them with unprecedented harmony, mutual respect, and a deep-seated empathy for the working class,” the statement read.

The labour movement further prayed for divine wisdom, strength, and longevity for the governor, expressing hope that the “Imole” vision of the administration would continue to positively impact the people of Osun State.

The statement was jointly signed by the Osun State NLC Chairperson, Comrade Christopher Arapasopo; TUC Chairman, Comrade Bimbo Fasasi; and JNC Chairman, Comrade Lekan Adediran.
