A G6 P5 A5 ( Pregnant for 6times,delivered 5, the 5 children alive) young woman was pregnant the sixth time but have not registered for antenatal at 28weeks gestation.

We asked her which hospital are you using for antenatal services? She said, Nurse I haven't registered and I will not till the 9th month. We asked why?

She said, this the 6th one now, I don't have time for regular antenatal visits and no money yet.

We asked again, have you done any Ultrasound scan? She said, Nurse I don't think there's need for that, even when we was trying to educate her on the need for antenatal registration and Ultrasound scan, it seems like pouring water on a stone.

We left her since she doesn't want to change her mind or give a listening ear .

Some months later, i met one of her neighbours, I asked, has Mrs K delivered because last time I saw her with pregnancy? The neighbour said,

The pregnancy almost took her life, she was making basket when she noticed that blood was streaming down her legs, she was rushed to nearby hospital where they assumed it was labor pain and being that she didn't register for antenatal with the hospital so they don't know anything about the pregnancy.

When Doctor asked her to open up her legs, he saw something protruding from the birth canal, he thought it was the fetal head, trying to put/ insert his finger, he felt a soft tissue ( placenta). Meanwhile she had 3°PLACENTA PREVIA.

She was rushed to theatre, eventually a dead female baby was extracted.
2. She was transfused with 5pints of blood
3. She spent 1month in the hospital for recuperation.
4. Hospital bill was 450,000k.

The benefits of antenatal care can never be overemphasised, irrespective of the number of children you have.

THERE'S NO GURU IN PREGNANCY.

Please and please

So this woman was in LABOUR and her labour was kind of slow, so the midwife decided to augment the labour which simply means she wanted to speed up LABOUR by introducing oxytocin in an infusion which we Normally call “HOT DRIP”

She set it up and regulated the flow to be moving very slowly

Do you know immediately this midwife left, the woman in LABOUR went and increased the “drip” thinking it will make her deliver more faster than when it was slow

That was how this woman ended up in the theater with ruptured womb which was eventually removed

At least her life was saved but she lost her baby and her womb

When you’re in labour, mind the actions and decisions you take because you might be endangering yourself and you don’t know

For those of you that are found of doing that,
You know yourself, please stop

When we prescribe certain medications and their dosages for you, we definitely know what we are doing

Don’t go and do otherwise and put your life at risk

AVOIDING CERVICAL TEARS DURING LABOR

The cervix is the opening of the uterus / womb.

During the first stage of labor it has to be fully dilated before you are allowed or permitted to push the baby out

It takes time for the cervix to dilate from 1cm to 10cm

At 10 cm you are fully dilated and the cervix is fully taken up

The fact that you are in pain does not mean you have to push the baby out

Pushing through a cervix that is not fully dilated can cause severe tears

Cervical tears can cause bleeding and requires skills to repair

Always cooperate with your doctor or midwife

Push when they have confirmed the cervix is fully dilated.

When the cervix is fully dilated the midwife will no longer feel it during vaginal examination and pushing will not cause any tear

PREGNANT WOMAN BEWARE OF ECLAMPSIA

"NURSE WHAT HAPPENED TO ME"

These were the words of a patient .
She opened her eyes and she was in the hospital

She was walking to a shop and that's all she remembers

In between that time and the time she opened her eyes had to be communicated to her.
She had no idea.

Her blood pressure and protein has been normal throughout her pregnancy journey

She experienced headaches in the morning which she thought was part of the pregnancy

She didn't pay so much attention to it

What happened next was a fall which came with fits like that of an epileptic patient

At the hospital , BP and urine protein were all present and high

She suffered eclampsia. Eclampsia sets in when you have pre eclampsia and it's poorly controlled or not monitored

If diagnosed of pre eclampsia pay attention to the impending signs of eclampsia and report immediately

Severe and persistent Headaches

Epigastric pain

High BP more than 140/90 mmhg

Flashes of light

When you have the strong urge to vomit due to high BP

Report early if you don't feed well

5 Please do not give your baby any form of agbo or herbal medicine sometimes they cause more harm than good.

6 Each time you want to change their diaper you can use vaseline, it will help prevent your baby from getting diaper rash. Don’t use powder on new born

7 Never give a baby under 1 year of age honey. It can make them seriously sick.

These are the things I remember now will update if anymore come to mind

If you’re a lady here

Read this

Types of Female Pelvis and how they affect birth

1) Gynecoid:

• The gynecoid pelvis is thought to be the most favorable pelvis type for a vaginal birth. This is because the wide, open shape give the baby plenty of room during delivery.

2) Android:
• The narrower shape of the android pelvis can make labor difficult because the baby might move more slowly through the birth canal. Some pregnant women with an android pelvis may require a C-section.

3) Anthropoid
• The elongated shape of the anthropoid pelvis makes it roomier from front to back than the android pelvis. But it’s still narrower than the gynecoid pelvis. Some pregnant women with this pelvis type may be able to have a vaginal birth, but their labor might last longer.

4) Platypelloid
• The shape of the platypelloid pelvis can make a vaginal birth difficult because the baby may have trouble passing through the pelvic inlet. Many pregnant women with a platypelloid pelvis need to have a C-section.

For those of you that are busy drinking lipton everyday, because they told you lipton can reduce baby’s weight

Let me tell you what really happens

Yes Lipton can reduce the weight of your baby and you might give birth to a low weight baby

Because Lipton contains caffeine

Now Because of the high concentration of caffeine in lipton, taking it during pregnancy may affect the placenta

It will reduce the work of the placenta and you know it’s the placenta that transfers nutrients, oxygen and all the necessary things that a child needs to develop in the womb

So when it’s taken in excess, it’s going to reduce the work life of the placenta and it can lead to

Premature delivery
Low birth weight
Miscarriage and even poor brain development for the unborn baby

Since you don’t know the amount of Lipton you will take that is going to be in excess, I will kindly advice you not to take Lipton tea during pregnancy

ATTENTION PLEASE

If you’re in labour try to always empty your bladder

A full bladder during labor can slow things down,

It can cause an obstruction and prevent baby’s descent down the birthing canal.

Making your contractions ineffective or even weaken them.

It can also cause more lower abdominal pain

It can Increase the risk of urinary tract infections or damage the bladder.

It can also delay placental separation.

If you notice, your midwife usually uses a cartether to empty urine after you push out your baby

Yes, that’s to ensure that urin doesn’t delay placenta delivery

So please when you are In labour, aim to always empty your bladder
