🌧️ RAINY SEASON HEALTH ALERT: Protect Your Child from Malaria, Colds & Other Infections

The rainy season is here, and with it comes an increase in illnesses such as malaria, colds, coughs, catarrh, and diarrhea, especially among children.

As parents and caregivers, here are a few important tips to help keep your children healthy:

🦟 1. Prevent Malaria
β€’ Let your child sleep under an insecticide-treated mosquito net every night.
β€’ Remove stagnant water around your home where mosquitoes breed.
β€’ Keep your surroundings clean.

🀧 2. Don't Ignore Colds and Catarrh
A runny nose or cough may seem minor, but if your child develops a high fever, has difficulty breathing, or the symptoms persist, seek medical attention promptly.

🧼 3. Practice Good Hygiene
Teach your children to wash their hands regularly with soap and clean water, especially:
βœ” Before eating
βœ” After using the toilet
βœ” After playing outside

πŸ₯— 4. Boost Your Child's Immunity
Provide a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, proteins, and plenty of clean drinking water. Good nutrition helps children fight infections.

🌑️ 5. Don't Assume Every Fever Is Malaria
Although malaria is common during the rainy season, not every fever is caused by malaria. Visit a healthcare facility for proper diagnosis and treatment instead of self-medicating.

🚨 Seek Immediate Medical Care If Your Child:
❗ Has a persistent high fever
❗ Has difficulty breathing
❗ Refuses to eat or drink
❗ Is unusually weak or difficult to wake
❗ Has repeated vomiting or diarrhea
❗ Experiences convulsions

Remember, prevention is always better than cure. Taking simple precautions today can protect your child from serious illness.

πŸ€” MYTH OR FACT?

Myth: Fever is a disease. ❌

Fact: Fever is not a disease. It is a symptom that tells us the body may be fighting an infection or another illness.

As parents and caregivers, understanding the difference can help you make informed decisions about your child's health. While fever is not always dangerous, it should never be ignored especially in young children or when accompanied by other concerning symptoms.

πŸ’§ CHILD HEALTH TIP: Signs of Dehydration in Children

Children can become dehydrated quickly, especially during hot weather, diarrhea, vomiting, or illness.

Watch out for these signs:
πŸ”Ή Dry mouth and lips
πŸ”Ή Dark yellow urine
πŸ”Ή Little or no tears when crying
πŸ”Ή Sunken eyes
πŸ”Ή Excessive thirst
πŸ”Ή Tiredness or unusual sleepiness

If you notice these symptoms, encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids and seek medical attention if the condition worsens.

Remember: Early detection can prevent serious health complications.
