Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, finally laid to rest. 🕊️

The announcement of his illness sent a deep chill across Yorubaland. But his passing has left a silence that words can hardly explain.

For many, Taiwo Hassan was more than an actor. He was a household name—a man whose presence, voice and remarkable delivery became part of the memories of generations.

His words carried weight. His roles reflected life. His personality commanded respect. And for thousands who watched and admired him, his death feels deeply personal.

Behind the fame, however, was a human being who battled illness, surrounded by people who loved him, cared for him and hoped for his recovery.

Today, the final goodbye has been said.

But as we mourn the man we knew and celebrated, perhaps there is another side of this story we must not ignore—the emotional toll of prolonged illness, caregiving, grief and eventual loss on the family left behind.

How do we truly prepare ourselves mentally for the loss of someone who has been such a huge part of our lives—and how can we support the family left behind after the cameras are gone and the crowd has gone home?

What does Taiwo Hassan’s passing mean to YOU personally? 🕊️💔

WHEN A LOVED ONE DIES AFTER A LONG ILLNESS, WHO CARES FOR THE FAMILY?

Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the passing of veteran actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo. 🕊️

Reports confirm that the 66-year-old actor died today, August 23, 2026, after battling advanced cancer. In the days before his death, members of his family publicly sought urgent medical help for him.

But today, as we mourn him, let us also remember the family members who stood beside him.

Because when someone is battling a serious illness, the patient is not the only person hurting.

THE FAMILY MAY ALSO BE FIGHTING A SILENT BATTLE.

Imagine watching your father, husband, mother, sibling or loved one become seriously ill.

You may experience:

• Fear — “Will we lose him?”

• Anticipatory grief — grieving the possibility of death even before it happens.

• Helplessness — wanting to save your loved one but not knowing what else to do.

• Emotional exhaustion — repeatedly trying to remain strong for everyone.

• Anxiety — worrying about what the next medical report will bring.

• Guilt — wondering, “Did we do enough?”

• Sleep disturbance and loss of concentration — especially during prolonged caregiving and uncertainty.

• Shock and disbelief after the actual death.

• Deep grief when the person who occupied such an important place in their lives is suddenly gone.

And sometimes, the person who appears strongest at the funeral may be the one who has been breaking down privately for weeks or months.

PLEASE, LET US BE CAREFUL WITH BEREAVED FAMILIES.

Don't rush them to “be strong.”

Don't tell them, “Stop crying.”

Don't expect them to immediately answer every call, respond to every message or attend every social gathering.

Don't make their grief about how quickly you think they should recover.

And please don't turn their most painful moments into content without considering their dignity and privacy.

Grief is not weakness.

Crying is not weakness.

Needing support is not weakness.

Sometimes, grief needs time, patience, companionship and professional support.

TO THE FAMILY OF TAIWO HASSAN:

We may not know the full depth of what you have endured, and we will not pretend to know exactly how each of you feels.

But we see the love, concern and efforts that surrounded his illness.

May you find strength for the days ahead.
May you be permitted to grieve without pressure.
May the beautiful memories you shared with him gradually become a source of comfort.
And may you receive the emotional and social support you need during this difficult season.

🕊️ Rest in peace, Taiwo Hassan “Ogogo.”

A MESSAGE FOR EVERY FAMILY:

When illness comes into a family, don't care only for the patient. Care for the caregiver too.

Ask:

“How are YOU coping?”

Sometimes, that simple question can mean more than we realise.

Mental health matters—even in grief. ❤️

👇 Have you ever watched someone you love battle a serious illness? What was the most difficult part for you or your family?

Let's talk about it respectfully.
Someone reading your experience today may realise that they are not alone.

🚨 A SEIZURE CAN HAPPEN ANYWHERE. DO YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO?

Move dangerous objects away and, if possible, place something soft under the person’s head. ❤️

Your calm response can prevent injury and protect a life.

Would you know what to do if someone had a seizure beside you? 👇🏽
