KWASUTH Dietitian Bags Prestigious IDN Fellowship

The Nutrition and Dietetics Department of the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH) has recorded another professional milestone with the conferment of the prestigious Fellowship Award of the Institute for Dietetics in Nigeria (IDN) on Dtn. Onifade Bashir Abiodun, RDN.

The fellowship was conferred on Dtn. Onifade on Monday at the Lt. Gen. T. A. Lagbaja Multipurpose Hall, Army Barracks, Minna, Niger State.

The distinguished honour recognises his dedication, professional excellence, hard work, commitment, and valuable contributions to the growth of the Institute and the Dietetics profession in Nigeria.

The Fellowship also represents recognition of Dtn. Onifade's commitment to advancing the practice and development of Dietetics and nutrition care.

Dietitians play a vital role in promoting healthy living, preventing nutrition-related diseases, and supporting the management of conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, malnutrition, kidney disease, and obesity through evidence-based nutrition care.

The recognition therefore underscores the importance of professional Dietetics in improving patient outcomes and enhancing the quality of healthcare delivery.

The management and entire staff of KWASUTH, under the leadership of the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Bola Ahmed Abdulkadir, congratulated Dtn. Onifade Bashir Abiodun on the professional distinction.

The management described the achievement as a source of pride to the hospital and the Nutrition and Dietetics Department.

Dr. Abdulkadir wished him greater accomplishments and continued excellence in his service to humanity.

KWASUTH Commemorates World Hepatitis Day with Awareness Campaign at Emir's Palace

The Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH), in collaboration with the Kwara State Ministry of Health, commemorated the 2026 World Hepatitis Day with a public awareness campaign at the Emir's Palace, Ilorin, to educate residents on the prevention, early detection and treatment of viral hepatitis.

The programme formed part of activities marking this year's World Hepatitis Day, with the theme, "Hepatitis: Let's Break It Down."

Speaking at the event, the Chief Medical Director of KWASUTH, Dr. Bola Ahmed Abdulkadir, described hepatitis as a silent but preventable disease and urged members of the public to embrace regular screening, vaccination and early treatment.

He stressed that early diagnosis remains the key to preventing complications such as liver cirrhosis and liver cancer, while reaffirming the hospital's commitment to supporting efforts aimed at eliminating hepatitis as a public health threat in Kwara State.

Also speaking, the Hepatitis Desk Officer at the Kwara State Ministry of Health, Mrs. Alaya Gbemisola, called on residents to take advantage of available hepatitis testing and vaccination services, emphasising that increased awareness, prompt diagnosis and access to treatment are critical to achieving the goal of eliminating viral hepatitis.

The event featured a health lecture delivered by Dr. Bojuwoye of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), who enlightened participants on the causes, symptoms, prevention and management of viral hepatitis.

Free hepatitis screening, medical tests and counselling services were also provided to members of the public, while health professionals educated participants on healthy lifestyle practices and the importance of knowing their hepatitis status.
