� BEFORE YOUR ULTRASOUND: HOW SHOULD YOU PREPARE?
Did you know that what you eat, drink, or even how full your bladder is can affect some ultrasound examinations? �
Ultrasound is a safe and widely used imaging examination, but preparation depends on the type of ultrasound you are having.
� 1. Follow your hospital's instructions
Not every ultrasound requires the same preparation. Always follow the specific instructions given when your appointment is scheduled.
� 2. � You may need to drink water
For some pelvic, bladder, and certain early-pregnancy examinations, you may be asked to have a comfortably full bladder. Don't assume this is required for every ultrasound.
� 3. � You may need to fast
For some abdominal or gallbladder examinations, fasting may be required because food and digestive activity can affect visualization. Follow the fasting period provided by your imaging centre.
� 4. � Wear comfortable clothing
Choose clothing that allows easy access to the area being examined.
� 5. � Ask about your medications
Don't stop prescribed medication on your own. Ask the imaging centre or your healthcare provider whether you should take your usual medication before the examination.
� 6. � Bring relevant information
If available, bring your referral, previous imaging reports, and other relevant medical information.
� 7. � Tell the sonographer about your symptoms
Let the imaging professional know about your symptoms, the location of pain, pregnancy status when relevant, or any other important information.
� IMPORTANT
Preparation varies according to the ultrasound examination.
An abdominal ultrasound may have different instructions from a pelvic ultrasound, obstetric ultrasound, thyroid ultrasound, or vascular examination.
So, don't guess—follow the instructions provided by your healthcare facility. �

🧲 MRI SAFETY: WHY CAN’T YOU TAKE METAL INTO THE MRI ROOM?

you ever wondered why you are asked to remove your phone, watch, jewelry, keys, coins and other metal objects before entering an MRI room?

✓The reason is the powerful magnetic field produced by the MRI scanner.
Unlike X-rays, MRI uses a strong magnetic field and radiofrequency energy to create detailed images of the body. Because of this, certain metallic objects can become dangerous inside the MRI environment.

⚠️ WHY IS METAL A PROBLEM?
Some metal objects can be attracted strongly toward the MRI magnet and potentially become projectiles.
Other metallic or electronic devices may:
🔹 Malfunction or move
🔹 Heat up and cause injury
🔹 Distort the MRI images
🔹 Interfere with the examination
That's why MRI safety screening is extremely important.

❤️ WHAT ABOUT MEDICAL IMPLANTS?
Before an MRI, always tell the radiographer/MRI team if you have:
❤️ A pacemaker or implanted cardiac device
🦴 Joint replacements or metal implants
🧠 Surgical clips or other implanted devices
👁️ Possible metal fragments, especially in the eye
💊 Drug pumps or other electronic implants
Not every implant automatically prevents MRI. Some devices are MR Conditional, meaning they can be scanned under specified conditions. The MRI team must verify the device before scanning.

MRI safety isn't simply about asking, “Do you have metal?”
The imaging team needs to know about your implants, previous surgeries, possible metal fragments and other relevant items before you enter the MRI environment.

🧠 REMEMBER
Never enter an MRI room with an unknown metal object or medical device.
If you're unsure, tell the MRI team and let them check it.
Safety comes before the scan. 🛡️🧲

🩻 WHAT HAPPENS TO X-RAYS AFTER THEY PASS THROUGH YOUR BODY?

Have you ever wondered what actually happens to an X-ray beam after it enters your body? 🤔🩻
When a radiographer takes an X-ray, the beam travels from the X-ray tube, through the patient's body, and toward a detector.
But here's the interesting part: not all X-rays behave the same way inside the body.
Different tissues absorb and attenuate X-rays differently.
🦴 Bone absorbs more X-rays, so fewer reach the detector.
🫁 Air-filled lungs allow more X-rays to pass through.
🫀 Soft tissues produce intermediate levels of attenuation.
The detector receives the X-rays that have passed through the body and converts that information into an electronic image that can be displayed on a monitor.
🩻 SO WHAT CREATES THE IMAGE?
Think of it like this:
X-ray tube ➡️ Patient ➡️ Different tissue absorption ➡️ Detector ➡️ Computer ➡️ Radiographic image
The differences in X-ray transmission create the varying shades and patterns that allow anatomical structures to be seen.
☢️ WHAT ABOUT THE X-RAYS AFTER THE EXPOSURE?
The X-ray beam does not remain inside your body after an ordinary X-ray exposure.
The useful transmitted radiation reaches the detector, while other photons may be absorbed or scattered. Once the exposure ends, the X-ray production stops.
So, unlike radioactive materials, a routine X-ray examination does not make you radioactive.
💡 REMEMBER:
The X-ray image is created from the pattern of radiation that passes through the body and reaches the detector.
That's the science happening behind that image on the monitor! 🩻🔬
