TRADITIONAL LEADERS LAUD FG’S COMMITMENT TO HEALTHCARE DEVELOPMENT IN KUMO

The Village Head of Tashan Magarya in Kumo Town, Malam Muhammed Adamu Kumo, alongside members of his delegation, on Monday, May 18, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Kumo, Dr. Mu’azu Shuaibu Ishaq, as part of efforts to strengthen goodwill and foster cordial community relations between the hospital and its host community.
The delegation was warmly received by the management team of the hospital at the office of the Medical Director.

Speaking during the visit, the Village Head of Tashan Magarya commended the Federal Government under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for extending quality healthcare development initiatives to Kumo through the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre. He described the hospital as a significant blessing and a major milestone in the advancement of healthcare delivery within the community and neighboring areas.

Malam Adamu Kumo noted that the presence of the facility has greatly improved access to quality medical care for the people of Kumo and surrounding communities, thereby bringing relief to residents who previously faced challenges in accessing healthcare services. He expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and the management of FMC Kumo for their commitment towards improving healthcare delivery and community development.

The traditional leader further assured the management of the hospital of the continued support, cooperation, and prayers of the people of Tashan Magarya towards the growth, peace, and progress of the institution. He also passionately appealed to the Medical Director to give consideration to qualified members of the host community whenever recruitment opportunities arise within the hospital.

In his response, the Medical Director of FMC Kumo, Dr. Mu’azu Shuaibu Ishaq, described the visit as a clear demonstration of unity, mutual respect, and the cordial relationship existing between the hospital and its host community. He stated that the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre Kumo aligns with the healthcare development drive of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which is aimed at improving access to quality healthcare services across the country.

Dr. Ishaq emphasized that Kumo and its surrounding communities are fortunate to be among the beneficiaries of the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery nationwide. According to him, the presence of the hospital in Kumo has not only enhanced access to quality medical services but has also created employment opportunities, stimulated economic activities, and contributed significantly to the overall development of the area.

The Medical Director further stressed that the host community remains the primary beneficiary of the facility and therefore appealed for sustained support, cooperation, and understanding from community leaders and residents to enable the hospital effectively discharge its mandate.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the management of FMC Kumo towards delivering quality healthcare services and sustaining a peaceful, productive, and mutually beneficial relationship with the host community.

FEDERAL MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND SOCIAL WELFARE INSPECTS FMC KUMO, LINCOLN UNIVERSITY AHEAD OF MEDICAL TRAINING COLLABORATION

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has conducted an inspection and assessment visit to Federal Medical Centre Kumo and Lincoln University Kumo ahead of the proposed collaboration between the two institutions for the training of medical students.

The assessment exercise, which took place on Thursday, 14th May 2026, was led by the Director of Hospital Services of the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Abishola S. Adegoke, mni alongside members of her delegation.

The visiting team was received and taken on a facility tour by the management of the hospital led by the Medical Director, Dr. Mu’azu Shuaibu Ishaq. During the inspection, the delegation assessed critical areas of the hospital including available facilities, manpower strength, and medical equipment, which are among the prerequisites for securing approval for the collaboration.

The assessment exercise was also extended to Lincoln University Kumo, where the delegation inspected the university’s learning environment and facilities in preparation for the proposed academic partnership.

Speaking during the debriefing session, the Director of Hospital Services expressed satisfaction with the level of infrastructure, cleanliness, and commitment demonstrated by both institutions. She commended the managements for maintaining a good culture of cleanliness and dedication to quality service delivery.
The DHS further urged the two institutions to seize the opportunity of their close proximity to strengthen collaboration towards the training of future medical doctors, stressing that the partnership would contribute immensely to healthcare manpower development in the country.

In his response, the Medical Director of FMC Kumo, Dr. Mu’azu Shuaibu Ishaq, expressed appreciation to the Federal Ministry of Health team for the visit. He noted that assessment visits of such nature are not meant to intimidate institutions, but rather to provide professional guidance and recommendations where necessary for improved healthcare service delivery and academic excellence.

FMC KUMO HOLDS JOINT SENSITIZATION AND INTERACTIVE SESSION WITH FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AGENCIES

Federal Medical Centre Kumo has organized a sensitization and interactive session involving key federal government agencies as part of efforts to enlighten and equip members of staff with practical knowledge of work ethics, civil service rules, and compliance procedures.

The programme, held at the hospital premises, featured representatives from the Federal Character Commission, Code of Conduct Bureau, and National Pension Commission (PENCOM), who delivered presentations on various aspects of public service administration and professional conduct.

Speaking during the session, the team leader from the Federal Character Commission, Dr. Elizabeth Makarn-Philph, presented a paper titled “Federal Character Principle: Implementation Strategies and Challenges.” She highlighted the importance of proper implementation of the Federal Character Principle in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), stressing the need for management of public institutions to uphold fairness, equity, and compliance with the Federal Civil Service Rules.

Also presenting at the session was Mr. Micheal O. Odogo from the Code of Conduct Bureau, who extensively discussed the principles and responsibilities outlined by the bureau. He urged all federal public servants to strictly adhere to the code of conduct and maintain integrity, transparency, and accountability in the discharge of their duties.

In a related presentation, the PENCOM representative, Malam Aminu Babadidi, explained in detail the requirements, principles, and expectations of the contributory pension scheme, emphasizing the need for public servants to understand and comply with pension regulations and procedures.

The event also featured an interactive question-and-answer session where participants drawn from the hospital management team and general staff sought clarification on various issues raised during the presentations. The representatives of the agencies responded to the questions and provided further explanations to enhance participants’ understanding.

Earlier in her remarks, the Head of Administration of the hospital, Halima M. Usman, explained the urgent need, objectives, and significance of organizing the sensitization programme, noting that it was aimed at improving staff awareness and strengthening compliance with established civil service regulations.

In his closing remarks, the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Muazu Shuaibu Ishaq, expressed appreciation to the representatives of the three agencies for their commitment in educating the hospital’s management and staff. He described the knowledge acquired during the interactive session as valuable and beneficial to the growth of the institution and appealed to participants to reflect the lessons learned in their daily official responsibilities and conduct.

FMC KUMO INAUGURATES NURSING MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE TO STRENGTHEN SERVICE DELIVERY

The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Kumo, inaugurated a Nursing Management Committee (NMC) as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare service delivery and enhance administrative efficiency within the institution.

The Inaugural Ceremony which held on Tuesday May 5, 2026 at the Hospital Reception Area was constituted by the Head of the Nursing Services Department, Malam Abdulkadir Bala Minjibir Chairman, and is regarded as the highest decision-making body within the department. It is tasked with ensuring effective and holistic administration, improving the welfare and training of nursing staff, and promoting quality, patient-centred care in alignment with the hospital’s mission, vision, and strategic objectives.

Members of the newly inaugurated committee include Ahmad Kachalla as Chief Nursing Officer (Administration), Alice J. Pisaghi as Chief Nursing Officer (Clinical), Binta Umar Jalige as Chief Nursing Officer (Continuing Education), and Udi Obukohwho as Chief Nursing Officer (Quality Improvement).

Speaking during the inaugural meeting, the Medical Director of FMC Kumo, Dr. Mu’azu Shu’aibu Ishaq, commended the Head of Nursing Services for the initiative. He described the establishment of the committee as a strategic step toward strengthening professionalism, accountability, and excellence in nursing services. According to him, the development goes beyond creating a structure, but serves as a platform for improved coordination and service delivery within the department.

In her goodwill message, the Director of Administration, Mrs. Halima M. FMC KUMO MANAGEMENT INSPECTS DEPARTMENTS AHEAD OF FULL OPERATIONS

As part of preparations for the commencement of full hospital operations, the management of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Kumo, has undertaken a comprehensive inspection of key departments, units, and offices within the facility.

The inspection exercise was led by the Medical Director, Dr. Mu’azu Shu’aibu Ishaq, alongside members of the hospital’s management team. The tour focused on assessing office accommodations, medical equipment, and overall readiness of various units and departments, with the aim of identifying existing gaps and areas requiring improvement prior to full-scale operations.

Departments and units inspected during the exercise included the laboratories, Accident and Emergency Unit, outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, and other critical service areas of the hospital.
During the visit, the Medical Director and his team also interacted with personnel across the different units, commending their efforts while encouraging them to remain committed to delivering quality, patient-centred care.
