Self medication and it's risk and consequences

Self-medication means using drugs without a doctor’s or nurse’s advice. It may look easy and cheap, but it is risky.

One risk is wrong diagnosis. A person may think it is a simple illness, while it is a serious one. This can delay proper treatment and make the illness worse.

Another risk is wrong drug or wrong dose. Taking the wrong medicine or too much can cause side effects, poisoning, or damage to organs like the liver and kidneys.

Self-medication can also lead to drug resistance, especially with antibiotics. When antibiotics are used wrongly, they may stop working in the future.

It can cause drug interactions, especially in people taking other medicines, pregnant women, children, and the elderly.

Consequences include prolonged illness, complications, addiction, increased cost of treatment later, and sometimes death.

In summary, self-medication is dangerous. Always seek advice from a qualified health worker before taking any medicine.
