Health is infrastructure. And Africa must be at the centre of the conversation on financing it.

On the sidelines of , our Founding Director, Dr. Awele Elumelu, O.F.R, joined a panel dialogue hosted by Future Health – A Global Initiative by Abu Dhabi convened by Abu Dhabi’s Department of Health, exploring the theme “The Economics of Health for All: Investing in Health as Infrastructure.”

During the discussion, she highlighted the need to move beyond financing treatment towards investing in the systems that keep people healthy — from primary care and diagnostics to health insurance, digital health and resilient healthcare infrastructure.

For Africa, this means recognising healthcare as a development priority, and equally an investment opportunity.

Through Avon Medical and Avon HMO, Heirs Holdings is contributing to both sides of the equation: strengthening healthcare delivery while expanding access and financial protection.

We cannot build resilient African economies without building resilient African health systems.

On the sidelines of UNGA, our Group Chair, Tony Elumelu, C.F.R, joined Michael Froman, President of the Council on Foreign Relations, for a fireside chat on Africa’s economic transformation and the role of private capital in unlocking the continent’s potential.

The conversation explored the realities of doing business in Africa, from perceived risk and the performance of the private sector to the AI revolution, energy security, infrastructure and industrialisation.

At the heart of the conversation was a principle that has defined our approach to business and investment:

“You should do business for profit as well as to impact the whole of humanity positively. In all our businesses, we now try to support the communities where we do business, so that there's mutual destiny, mutual prosperity, and not just one at the expense of the other."

And on Africa’s opportunity and the importance of changing the narrative:
