Today is World Hypertension Day.

Globally, over 1.28 billion adults live with hypertension, but shockingly, nearly half of them don't even know they have it.

It remains one of the leading global causes of premature death, driving the statistics for strokes, heart attacks, and kidney failure.

Here are some things about Hypertension no one told you:

1. You can walk around with dangerously high blood pressure for years feeling completely fine.

2. Hypertension is not an Old Person’s Disease. A 17-year-old can be hypertensive.

3 . Salt Isn't the Only Culprit: While sodium gets all the bad press, chronic stress, lack of sleep, and low potassium levels play massive roles in constricting your blood vessels.

4. It happens more in Black Races.

5. Hypertension is preventable. Not all old people are hypertensive.

Here are a few daily lifestyle habits that saves you from Hypertension:

1. Check It Regularly: Knowing your numbers is your first line of defense. Get a reliable home monitor or stop by a pharmacy to check it routinely.

2. Aim for 7-8 hours of quality sleep: Chronic sleep deprivation keeps your stress hormones elevated, forcing your heart to pump harder than it needs to.

3. Eat Your Potassium: Don't just focus on cutting salt down; focus on bringing potassium up. Foods like bananas, avocados, and leafy greens naturally help your body flush out excess sodium and relax blood vessel walls.

4. Keep Moving: Just 30 minutes of moderate exercise, even a brisk walk, most days of the week keeps your heart muscle strong and efficient.

Take a few minutes for yourself today to check your blood pressure. Your heart works 24/7 for you; today is the perfect day to check in on it!🫶

Happy World’s Hypertension Day! I’m rooting for you.

The reality of some people is that love can quite literally cost you your head.

For praying mantises, during or right after mating, a female mantis will sometimes turn on her partner, attacking him and biting off his head while they are still in the middle of reproducing.

When this is done, the male’s body doesn't just stop oh. It keeps right on mating even after being decapitated. Because his reproductive movements are controlled by a bundle of nerves in his abdomen rather than his brain, his lower half keeps pushing forward to finish the mission completely oblivious to the fact that his head is gone.

As brutal as it seems, there is a brilliant, twisted logic to this evolutionary strategy. By eating her mate, the female gets a massive boost of crucial nutrients.

This extra energy helps her produce stronger, healthier eggs, ensuring the next generation survives.

So, in a strange way, the male achieves the ultimate biological victory: he successfully passes on his genes, while simultaneously serving as the first meal for his future children.

Back in 2010, a woman named Victoria Curthoys decided to try one of those popular fish spa pedicures while holidaying in Thailand.

It seemed totally harmless, but beneath the surface of the water lurked a microscopic, bone-eating threat.

Years earlier, Victoria had undergone surgery on her right big toe. Even though the wound had healed over, the water-borne bacteria Shewanella found a microscopic way through the vulnerable tissue, quietly breaching her bloodstream.

What followed was a medical mystery that completely baffled doctors back in Australia.

As the rare pathogen began to literally rot her bones from the inside out, physicians spent more than a year trying to figure out what was even making her sick.

By 2012, with the bone heavily deteriorated, surgeons were forced to amputate what remained of her big toe.

But the nightmare wasn't over.

The relentless infection had already migrated. Over the next five years, it turned into a terrifying game of dominoes. The sickness would resurface, a new toe would become infected, and surgeons would have to operate again.

By November 2017, seven years after she first stepped into that Thai spa tank, Victoria had all five toes on her right foot surgically removed just to save her life.

Today is International Day of the Boy Child.

The significance of this day didn’t start with a massive global treaty or a government.

It was founded in 2018 by Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh, a history and sociology lecturer from Trinidad and Tobago (who also founded International Men's Day).

He started it simply by sending letters to global leaders and NGOs, arguing that true gender equality can't be achieved if we completely ignore the specific vulnerabilities of young boys.

From a very young age, boys are heavily conditioned by society to adhere to rigid definitions of masculinity. They are told to "man up," "be tough," and that "boys don't cry."

This societal pressure forces boys to suppress their emotions, particularly vulnerability, sadness, and fear.

When a child cannot express pain healthily, it doesn't disappear; it mutates. In adolescence and adulthood, this suppressed emotion frequently manifests as severe anxiety, depression, substance abuse, or outward aggression and violence.

Today, we are saying that the feelings of every Boy Child matters and these feelings are very much okay to be expressed.

Happy International Day of the Boy Child!❤️‍🩹
