There are numerous challenges faced as an entrepreneur especially natural food merchant like Honey 🍯. You will agree with me that if you are not dogged and strong willed raw honey isn't a business to venture into.

Despite being a trained Beekeeper, year 2021 was a tough year for us

In the bid to improve in our packaging thereby positioning our brand "kathrah honey" we included a nutrition value table on our label without running an actual laboratory analysis and seeking guidance from professionals as regards labelling.

Our first real life experience with crystallization happened and it came during covid19 lockdown and on the label, the nutritional information servings mentioned sugar was in the content.

And you know whenever nigerians hear or read sugar, their minds go to refined sugar straight.

Oh mine, it was a tragic experience. Calls from our most reliable partners in business kept coming in that customers are complaining about a change in the state of the honey and we clearly stated it on the label that we added sugar.

What a disastrous coincidence,. Ahhhhh!

In the factory we have stocks crystallized too.

I remember vividly a lawyer threatened to sue us for defamation of character using Islam to sell because the owner is a Muslim and damaging the health of the people.

How did we redeem ourselves?

1. With the aid of my inlaw who is in the military 🪖 we were able to move around and retrieved back the stocks with our partners

2. We used social media platforms to educate the public about crystallization and traditional media on the 4th slide at idofian radio station. Because our major distributor is located at kwara and we had a lot of complaints from the location.

3. With support of our founder mentor who is an Entomologist, Dr Tella , with our founder background in chemistry a comprehensive Laboratory analysis was conducted during that same lockdown in order to ascertain the cause even though we are aware it was crystallization but it is new to our country.

4. We abandoned the labels, over 2000 pieces of labels till date.
