However, there is no way to always prevent sickling and sickle cell crises but complications could be averted, if patients complies with treatment without defaulting follow ups even when they feel better. These general ideas may help:
+Complete your immunization as recemmended by the physicians (Haemophilus influenza, pneumococcal, meningococcal, hepatitis B, and influenza.)
+Some patient may receive antibiotics to prevent infection
+Avoid environment with low oxygen like high altitudes, airplane flights
+Drink plenty of fluids, have fluids on hands
+ Avoid too much exposure to the sun or extreme cold
+Avoid getting infections, and quickly treat infections when you do get them
+Eat adequate meal to boost your immune system
+ Avoid smoking
+ Learn how to cope well with physical and emotional stress
+Recognize signs of dehydration
+ Share this information's with teachers and caregivers
+ Practice good hand hygiene
+See a primary care doctor
+Seek emergency medical medical care if temperature is above 37.8celsius, if patient have painful persistent purposeless er****on within 4 hours of onset, if patient experience difficulty in breathing.
