If your hospital is looking to expand its services, dialysis may be one of the most important additions you can make.

Think about it.

Every patient you refer elsewhere for dialysis is a patient your hospital currently cannot fully serve.

And for patients who require dialysis several times a week, that isn't a one-time need. It is continuous care.

So, if your hospital is considering adding dialysis, don't think of it as simply purchasing a few machines.

Think of it as building an entirely new service line.

You need to consider:

- How many patients you expect to serve
- How many dialysis stations you need
- Your water treatment system
- Dialysis machines and chairs
- Consumables required for every treatment
- Technical support and maintenance
- A reliable system for replenishing supplies

Because buying the machines is only the beginning.

A dialysis unit that cannot operate consistently because of inadequate infrastructure, unavailable consumables or equipment downtime isn't an expansion. It's an unfinished project.

Hospitals that expand successfully don't just ask:

“How much does a dialysis machine cost?”

They ask:

“What do we need to build a dialysis service that can run reliably every day?”

That's the better question.

So yeah, expand your services but build the service properly from day one

Don’t Be in a Hurry to Add Dialysis to Your List of Services

Adding dialysis to your hospital can improve patient outcomes, expand your services, and create a new revenue stream.

But it is also a major investment that requires proper planning.

Before you make the decision, ask yourself:

- Is there a genuine demand for dialysis services in my location?

- Do we have enough space to set up a safe and functional dialysis unit?

- Do we have access to a reliable water supply and water-treatment system?

- Is our electricity supply stable, and do we have adequate backup power?

- Can we recruit or train qualified nephrologists, dialysis nurses, and technicians?

- Do we have the financial capacity to purchase the right equipment and sustain operations?

- Have we considered the recurring cost of consumables, maintenance, staffing, and infection control?

- Do we have a clear plan for patient acquisition, referrals, pricing, and profitability?

- Are we prepared to meet the required regulatory and clinical standards?

- Do we have a reliable supplier who can provide quality equipment, consumables, installation, training, and after-sales support?

These questions will help you assess your readiness objectively, not just emotionally.

Just because you can buy dialysis machines does not automatically mean you are ready to operate a successful dialysis centre.

But if your answers show that you are ready, congratulations

If you’re looking to start a business in the healthcare industry, you should consider starting a dialysis centre. Begin by understanding the demand for dialysis care, equipment and setup costs, regulatory requirements, staffing needs, funding options, and the revenue model required to build a sustainable facility.

31/07/2026

A revenue-generating asset puts money into your hospital over time, while an underutilised investment drains your resources. For private hospital owners, adding a well-equipped dialysis centre can create a new income stream, attract more patients, increase referrals, and expand the range of specialised services your hospital provides.

If you want to buy hemodialysis machines that will actually last long, avoid these 5 mistakes:

1. Choosing the cheapest machine without considering long-term costs

A low purchase price can look attractive until frequent breakdowns, expensive repairs, and unavailable spare parts begin to drain your budget.

The real cost of a hemodialysis machine includes maintenance, consumables, servicing, and downtime, not just the initial price.

2. Ignoring the availability of technical support

Even the best machine will eventually require servicing.

Before buying, confirm that trained technicians, spare parts, and reliable after-sales support are readily available. A machine that cannot be repaired quickly can disrupt treatment schedules and affect patient care.

3. Buying without assessing your facility’s needs

Not every hemodialysis machine is suitable for every hospital or dialysis centre.

Consider your expected patient volume, treatment capacity, water system, power supply, available space, and staff experience before making a decision.

Buying the wrong machine can lead to underutilisation, operational challenges, or unnecessary expenses.

4. Ignoring staff training

A reliable machine can still develop problems when it is not operated correctly.

Ensure your nurses and technicians receive proper installation, operation, cleaning, and troubleshooting training. Correct usage helps reduce errors, prevent avoidable damage, and extend the machine’s lifespan.

5. Failing to choose the right supplier

Do not base your decision solely on attractive pictures, promises, or a cheap quotation.

A hemodialysis machine is a long-term investment in your facility and your patients. Choose a supplier that will still be available after the machine has been delivered.

Buying the right machine is not only about price. It is about reliability, patient safety, operational efficiency, and long-term support.

A lot of people living with diabetes know they should be checking regularly but life gets in the way. The strips run out. The glucometer is in the other room. The reading from yesterday felt fine so today does not feel urgent.

But here is the thing about blood sugar. It does not send you a warning before it spikes. It does not wait for a convenient moment.

And the gap between “I checked yesterday” and “I do not know what my numbers have been doing this week” is where a lot of preventable complications quietly begin.

Drop your answer in the poll and tell us in the comments what gets in the way of checking more consistently. We are listening. 👇🏾

Your body starts sending signals long before a diagnosis.

Frequent urination. Constant thirst. Wounds that will not heal. Tiredness that sleep does not fix. Most people blame these on stress, aging, or the weather.
Diabetes is one of the most common conditions in Nigeria. It is also one of the most ignored until complications set in.

Know the signs. Test early. Manage it properly.
