Many herbal preparations contain plant-based compounds called phytoestrogens.

They mimic estrogen in your body and bind to the same receptors your natural hormones use. When you take them alongside hormonal birth control, they compete for those same receptors.

The result? Your birth control becomes less effective, or stops working entirely.

Some herbs — like d**g quai, black cohosh, and wild yam — have estrogen-like effects that can disrupt your cycle, cause irregular bleeding, or interfere with ovulation timing.
’re not harmless because they’re “natural.” Poison is natural too!

If you’re using hormonal birth control, any herbal supplement that affects hormones can reduce its effectiveness. This includes herbal contraceptive rings, fertility teas, and “natural cycle balancing” supplements.

Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Your body doesn’t care whether the hormone came from a lab or a leaf. A receptor doesn’t know the difference.

Save this and share it.

You check your blood pressure, and the number looks high. You check again, and it’s even higher. You start to panic, so you check a third time, and now the number is through the roof.

If this sounds like you, you’re likely caught in the anxiety-blood pressure cycle.

The moment you focus on that monitor, your body releases stress hormones. Your heart speeds up, your blood vessels tighten, and the act of checking itself spikes the reading.

Studies show the first reading can be 10 to 20 points higher than the ones that follow. Your blood pressure hasn’t actually changed; you’re just catching it in a nervous moment.

To break the cycle and get a reading you can actually trust, our care specialists recommend updating your routine with these clinical standards:

➡️ Rest properly: Sit still for 10 minutes first. Avoid checking within 30 minutes of eating anything, smoking, or drinking coffee.

➡️ Fix your position: Sit upright with your back well supported and both feet flat on the floor. Don’t cross your legs or talk while the cuff is running.

➡️ Take three readings: Take three readings, 1 minute apart, and use the average of the last two. The first reading is often the highest because of your body’s natural alerting reaction.

One high reading is just a single data point, not a diagnosis. What matters is the pattern over weeks, not a single nervous moment.

If keeping your readings or medications sorted feels overwhelming, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Our Care Specialists can help you organise your blood pressure logs, coordinate your refill schedules, and deliver your medications monthly.

If the PCOS/PMOS conversation has validated how connected your symptoms are, the next step is to ensure you’re asking better questions.

The 2023 international guideline published an official question prompt list — built by doctors and patients together — because asking the right questions changes the outcome.

A lot of people are just finding out that women can have PCOS without having ovarian cysts, which is exactly why the old name caused so much confusion.

In fact, in many cases, the “cysts” are follicles, which are small sacs that hold developing eggs & can appear on the ovaries when ovulation is disrupted.

Recent reports have put COVID back in the conversation after a confirmed case in Cross River.

While widespread transmission has not been confirmed, it’s still a useful reminder to take simple precautions seriously.

Wash your hands, stay home when sick, use a mask when needed, and protect people who are more vulnerable.

Stress isn’t just in your head. Your daily habits are quietly raising your cortisol, and your blood pressure.

It starts with light. Your body needs morning sun to set your rhythm. Miss it, and cortisol stays elevated at the wrong times. Then night comes, and bright lights tell your brain it’s still daytime. Your body never gets the signal to relax.

Late-night workouts keep your heart rate up longer than needed. Random eating times make your body stay “on alert.” Deep work without breaks leaves your blood vessels constricted. And stacking coffee, music, and notifications means your system never gets a break.

This is how daily stress turns into high blood pressure. Chronic cortisol keeps your vessels tight, holds more salt and water, and disrupts sleep; where blood pressure should naturally drop.

Cortisol isn’t the enemy, your timing is.

Fix your rhythm, and you protect your heart.
