Fashion designers who do this never run out of clients.

Let me tell you something, my dear tailors and fashion designers.

Clients don't come just because you can sew.
They come because they see you.
They come because they remember you in their minds.
And they come because you remind them every week that you are still here, still sewing, and still giving value.

Let me explain what I mean.

1. Post your work every week
Don't just sew and keep quiet.
When you finish an outfit, snap it well and post it online.
Even if it's not perfect, someone will still admire it.
People can't buy from a tailor they don't see.
Posting consistently keeps you on people's minds.

2. Collect and post testimonials
When a client loves your work, ask for feedback.
It can be as simple as " love my dress."
Post it.
That small screenshot can bring you three to five new clients.
People trust what others say about you more than what you say about yourself.

3. Ask for referrals
Every satisfied client has at least two friends who also need a tailor.
Tell them politely,
"If you love my work, please refer me to your friends."
You can even give a small discount for referrals.
This simple habit keeps your business alive.

4. Show your face once in a while
You are the brand.
Smile. Record yourself cutting, sewing, or packaging outfits.
People connect with humans, not mannequins.
Let them see the person behind the needle.
That's how trust grows.

If you do these small things every week, you will get more patronage, from both old clients and new ones.

My hands are blessed.

Yesterday, one of my clients came to my shop and asked where my industrial sewing machine was.

I told her that I don’t have an industrial machine for now, and she was surprised. She then asked, “If you don’t use an industrial machine, how do you sew neat and clean clothes?”

I replied that neat and clean work does not depend on the machine you use, but on how the tailor handles the outfit.

A tailor can use an industrial machine and still produce a messy job, while another can use a simple machine and deliver a very neat finish.

If you’re into any skill, please prioritize neat work. Know what you’re doing.

Learn the skill deeply and master it to the point where people are amazed by your results and respect your craftsmanship.

My hands are blessed Alhamdulillah 🙏

5 Things you must have the audacity to say “NO” to, as a tailor.

1. NO, I can't do that particular design, do you have any other design in mind or should I send you the ones I have.

learn to say No, if the design pass you, some deals will deal with you, if you are not careful.

2. NO, I can't deliver on this particular date, can we extend it to this so so date so that I won't disappoint you.

Don't promise unrealistic delivery Dates, you no be magician... if not na krikri you go dey finish the outfit. this is when I can deliver is not hard to say.

3. NO, I can't go below this amount, this is the best price I can do for that particular design
Underpriced work Will keep you busy without anything to show for it, busy and broke.

4. No, I can't deliver without complete payment.

Business is business let's keep it professional. Once money dey involved, if you deliver to them without your balance you will have to beg for it.

5. No, I'm sorry, I don't sew unfinished outfits that another tailor started (settle with the tailor or bring a fresh fabric)

It's not idea to continue an outfit wey another tailor cut and left maybe because of client-tailor unsettled difference.

This is no meme …..

As funny as this write up is, it’s actually true and relatable.

You might be talking about something else and i would be so busy thinking about how to cut and sew a particular style .

If my brain gets less busy , I would be laughing at a puffy zipper I saw in a wedding reception last week Sunday.

It’s not my fault.

I’m a seamstress and sewing is my calling 🪡✂️👗🧵

HEMMING GUM.
HERE IS THE RIGHT WAY TO USE YOUR HEMMING GUM

I want to talk about this regular hemming gum in the picture above. It is used primarily to hold fabrics together temporarily with an hot iron and not permanent. This is why you should run a stitch on it whenever you use it the hem of your customer’s garments.

These days, I have observed that some tailors use this hemming gum to finish the hem of their kaftan tops or Trouser without sewing on it. You shouldn’t do that.

This hemming gum is not permanent. I know you might have been told to double it and use a very hot iron on it so as it make it last longer.

I want to tell you that, Whether you double or triple it, sprinkle water and all, after the first or second wash, it’d come off/apart. Why? Its work is temporary.

How then do you expect your customer to feel seeing the hem of their trouser or top open? Of course they’d feel bad.
That’s why .ng , we don’t use only hemming gum to finish our gowns and kaftan tops.

Check “some” of your ready-made clothes. Hemming gum was used to finish the neck facing, bou-bou hemming etc without tacking, which is why they are opening and you have to use your hand to push them back in with your hands or you use needle and thread to tack them.

HERE IS MY ADVICE: Whenever you use this regular hemming gum on your hem or pocket, sew on it with your sewing machine or tack it with needle and thread immediately(hand stitching).

Hemming Gum is NOT DURABLE!!

I hope you learnt something?
