“Doctor, how do I know this is actually labour?”

This is one of the most common questions pregnant women ask.

Not every contraction means established labour.

True labour contractions generally develop a pattern and become stronger, longer and closer together.
But there no perfection home test can be attached
If you’re unsure, contact your maternity team and follow the plan they have given you.

🚨 Don’t wait if your waters break, you have significant bleeding, your baby is moving less than usual, you are less than 37 weeks and think you may be in labour, or you have severe/constant pain.

My Baby Is Moving Less Today — What Should I Do?

Your baby normally moves regularly, but today the movements seem much less than usual.

Should you wait and see?

In this video, we explain:

• When fetal movements are usually first noticed
• Why every baby has an individual movement pattern
• What a change in your baby’s usual movements may mean
• What you should do if movements decrease or stop
• Why you should not rely on a home Doppler for reassurance
• Why you should contact your maternity team promptly

If you notice any reduction or change in your baby’s usual movements, you need to get assessed by a healthcare professional.

⚠️ This video is for health education and does not replace individual medical assessment.

If you are concerned that your baby is moving less than usual, has stopped moving, or there is a significant change in the usual pattern, contact your maternity team or appropriate health facility immediately.
