Police, Hospital Management Strengthen Security Ties in Ondo

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Fagun Division, Ondo Town, SP Oginni Cornelius, has paid a familiarisation visit to the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the State Specialist Hospital, Dr. Akintade Adeola, as part of efforts to strengthen security collaboration within the healthcare facility.

The visit, which took place at the hospital premises in Ondo Town, brought together key officers from the police division and members of the hospital’s management team. The engagement focused on assessing the existing security framework of the hospital and identifying areas for improvement.

Welcoming the delegation, Dr. Adeola expressed appreciation for the proactive step taken by the police leadership, noting that hospitals require a secure environment to effectively deliver critical healthcare services. He highlighted the importance of safeguarding patients, staff, and hospital property, especially in a busy public health institution.

In his remarks, Mr. Oginni stated that the visit was aimed at fostering a stronger working relationship between the Nigeria Police Force and the hospital management. He emphasized the need for regular collaboration, intelligence sharing, and improved response mechanisms to address security concerns within and around the hospital.

The DPO also assured the management of the division’s readiness to support the hospital through increased patrols, rapid response to emergencies, and advisory support on security best practices.

Discussions during the visit covered access control, emergency preparedness, and the need for improved surveillance systems. Both parties agreed on the importance of continuous engagement and periodic reviews of security arrangements.

The visit concluded with a mutual commitment to work closely in ensuring a safer environment for healthcare delivery and public safety in Ondo Town.

APIN Public Health Initiative Implementing Partners Visit State Specialist Hospital, Ondo

The APIN Public Health Initiative implementing partners in Ondo State paid a courtesy visit to the management of the State Specialist Hospital (SSH), Ondo, as part of efforts to strengthen the integration of service delivery for patients living with HIV into the general health system.

Speaking during the visit, the Team Leader and Head of APIN Public Health Initiative in Ondo State, Pharm. Olubusola Ojo, explained that prior to the partial withdrawal of funding by the United States Government, APIN—an agency responsible for the treatment, care, and sensitization of people living with HIV—had commenced the integration of health care provision for people living HIV into routine healthcare delivery across the state.

She noted that State Specialist Hospital, Ondo, currently falls under the category of facilities with partial integration and emphasized the need for improvement. According to her, integrated service delivery would ensure that patients living with HIV access care in a less stigmatized environment, see doctors alongside other patients, register using the same hospital system, receive drugs at the main pharmacy, and experience improved retention and tracking.

Also speaking, Mr. Ogunsuyi,a representative of the Ondo State AIDS Control Agency (ODSACA), commended the hospital management for its dedication since the inception of the program. He stressed that hospital cards and patient numbers for people living with HIV should be the same as those issued to all other patients. He added that while the ad-hoc staff are performing commendably, the government should employ more personnel and absorb qualified ad-hoc workers to enhance service delivery.

In his response, the Head of APIN at State Specialist Hospital, Dr. Modupe, appreciated the impact of APIN in the hospital, highlighting the hospital’s support in providing utilities such as electricity and generator services during clinic days. He disclosed that the hospital would commence dispensing HIV drugs at the main pharmacy and reaffirmed that all patients attending the hospital are issued hospital cards and numbers. He, however, noted the challenge of limited space for storing patient cards and recommended the adoption of an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system for seamless service delivery.

The Chief Medical Director, Dr. Adeola Akintade, stated that the hospital has a Quality Improvement Committee in place to ensure effective, efficient, and equitable healthcare services. He further revealed that the Ondo State Government has introduced i-ONDO, which has already commenced in revenue services and will soon be extended to healthcare. He assured the team that staff orientation would begin shortly and that the integration of services would be gradually implemented.

As part of its 17th anniversary celebrations, Rich Pastures Church International marked the milestone on Friday, 30 January 2026, with a meaningful medical outreach at the State Specialist Hospital, Ondo.

Mr Olukayode Adeleke Sunday, a senior pastor at Rich Pastures Church International said the outreach is aimed to support healthcare delivery and bring relief to indigent patients receiving treatment at the hospital. During the outreach, the church settled outstanding medical bills for selected patients, easing their financial burden and helping them access the care they need.

Speaking on behalf of the hospital, Chief Medical Director, Dr. Akintade Adeola, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Rich Pastures Church International for the kind gesture. He and the management officials present applauded the church for its dedication to community health and welfare.

This outreach is a reflection of the church’s ongoing commitment to social responsibility and humanitarian service, showing that celebrating milestones is not just about looking back, but also about giving back to the community.

State Specialist Hospital, Ondo Holds New Year Prayer Session

The management and staff of the State Specialist Hospital, Ondo, held a prayer and thanksgiving session to mark the first working day of the year and to commit the hospital’s activities for 2026 into God’s hands.

The session brought together staff from various departments, providing an opportunity for reflection, unity, and renewed commitment to duty as the hospital begins a new year of service delivery.

The Chief Imam, Dr. Bashir Alimi, led prayers and thanksgiving, seeking divine guidance, protection, and wisdom for the hospital’s management and staff. He urged healthcare workers to uphold professionalism, integrity, and the fear of God in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Pastor John Akinwale also offered prayers for the hospital’s continued progress and encouraged staff to remain diligent, committed, and steadfast in their duties throughout the year.

Representing the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Adeola Akintade, the Hospital Secretary, Mr. Ogunmodede Emmanuel, read from Psalm 136, acknowledging God’s faithfulness and mercy over the hospital and its workforce in the year past.

In his remarks, Mr. Ogunmodede commended staff for their dedication and hard work in the previous year and charged them to approach the new year with renewed zeal, strict adherence to laid-down procedures, teamwork, and integrity.

WMU of Emmanuel Baptist Church Pays Courtesy Visit to State Specialist Hospital, Ondo

The Women Missionary Union (WMU) of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Yaba, Ondo, paid a courtesy visit to the State Specialist Hospital, Ondo, during the Yuletide season. The visit was aimed at appreciating the hospital management and staff for their dedicated service to the community, as well as extending love and care to patients in obedience to God’s command to show compassion, especially during the festive period.

While receiving the delegation, the Hospital Secretary, Mr. Ogunmodede Emmanuel, speaking on behalf of the Chief Medical Director, expressed profound appreciation to the Women Missionary Union for their kind gesture and show of love to the hospital and its patients. He commended the group for their commitment to humanitarian service and community support.

In her remarks, the leader of the delegation, Mrs. Akinbulumo Adenike, appreciated the hospital management for the warm reception accorded the group. She reaffirmed the Women Missionary Union’s commitment to continuous support and promised that the association would continue to visit the hospital in the future.

As part of the visit, the Women Missionary Union distributed gifts to newborn babies and children receiving treatment in the children’s ward, bringing joy and comfort to the patients and their families during the Yuletide season.

State Specialist Hospital, Ondo, on Tuesday held its 2025 Christmas celebration in grand style, as management and staff gathered for the hospital’s annual Christmas carol service filled with songs of praise, dancing, and thanksgiving to God.

The event, which took place within the hospital premises, provided an opportunity for staff to reflect on the year’s achievements and express gratitude for God’s guidance and protection throughout the year.

Speaking at the occasion, the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. Adeola Akintade, thanked God for His mercy and faithfulness to the hospital and its workforce. He described the year as a remarkable one and commended members of staff for their dedication, resilience, and continued support for the hospital’s management.

Dr. Akintade urged staff to remain diligent, committed, and united in the coming year, stressing that teamwork and cooperation are vital to the hospital’s growth and effective service delivery. According to him, the progress recorded so far is a product of collective effort and shared responsibility.

The CMD also expressed appreciation to the Ondo State Governor, His Excellency, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for his unwavering support to the hospital, especially following its commencement as a State Specialist Hospital in 2025. He noted that the governor’s interventions and commitment to the health sector have contributed significantly to the hospital’s development.
