THAT CLOTH YOU ARE TYING TIGHTLY AROUND YOUR STOMACH AFTER DELIVERY… THE TRUTH WILL SHOCK YOU 🛑
Mama, you just delivered your baby.
And the first thing your mama, mother-in-law, or aunty says is…
"Tie your stomach tight so it will go back flat." 👘
And you obey.
Because they did it.
Their mothers did it.
And everybody around you is doing it.
But mama… nobody told you what that tight binding is doing to your body inside. 😢
Here is the dangèrous truth:
Tying your stomach TOO tight after delivery - especially in the first few days - is one of the most hãrmful things you can do to your postpartum body.
Here is what it does to you:
• It pushes your uterus downward instead of letting it contract back naturally - this can cause uterine prolapse 🚨
• It increases pressure on your pelvic floor - the muscles already weakened by delivery
• It traps lochia inside - the blõõd and tissue your body needs to expel after delivery. This causes infection 😭
• It restrîcts your breathing - shallow breathing after delivery increases rîsk of blõõd clots in your lungs
• It causes severe back pain by misaligning your spine during healing
• It slows down C-section wound healing - pressure on stitches causes them to open or infect
• It can cause acid reflux and digestive problems by compressing your organs
• It gives a FALSE sense of results - your stomach appears flat with the binder on but nothing has actually healed
And the most painful truth? 💔
Many mamas who tie too tight too soon end up with a pr*****ed womb.
Where the womb drops down into or outside the va**na.
Causing pain, discomfort, and serious long term health problems.
All because of a cloth tied too tight. 😢
❤️ Here is what you MUST know:
✔️ Wait at least 4-6 weeks after normal delivery before any stomach binding
✔️ After C-section - wait until your doctor clears you completely before binding
✔️ If you must bind - use a proper postpartum binder, not a random cloth tied as tight as possible
✔️ The binder should be firm but comfortable - you must be able to breathe deeply and normally
✔️ Binding alone will NOT give you a flat stomach - exercise and nutrition do that
✔️ Focus on letting your body HEAL first before worrying about how it looks
✔️ Kegel exercises and gentle walking do more for your recovery than any tight cloth ever will
✔️ If you feel pain, difficulty breathing, or increased bleeding while bound - remove it immediately
To the mothers, aunties, and mother-in-laws reading this… 👇
The tradition of stomach binding comes from a good place - wanting mama to heal well.
But how it is done matters.
Too tight. Too soon. Too long.
Is not love. It is hãrm. 🙏
Mama, your body just did something extraordinary.
It grew and delivered a human being.
It deserves time to heal.
It deserves gentleness.
It deserves grace. ❤️
A flat stomach will come with time, nutrition, and movement.
But a damãged womb… takes much longer to heal.
And sometimes… it never fully does. 💔
Save this post. Share it with every new mama and every family member caring for one. ❤️
This tradition needs to be done RIGHT - not just done.
