🎨 MAKE YOUR CLASSROOM LIVELY WITH “LEARNING CORNERS”
One simple way teachers can make learning more exciting is by creating learning corners in the classroom.
A learning corner is a small space in the class where pupils can see, touch, read, arrange, or interact with learning materials connected to what they are being taught.
It does not have to be expensive. A teacher can use charts, flashcards, drawings, bottle covers, cartons, word cards, number cards, pictures, old magazines, counters, or objects from the environment.
For example, a teacher can create:
Reading Corner – with storybooks, word cards, sentence strips, and simple comprehension questions.
Maths Corner – with number cards, shapes, counters, multiplication charts, and simple puzzles.
Science Corner – with leaves, stones, seeds, magnets, pictures of animals, and labelled objects.
Creative Corner – with crayons, paper, clay, cardboard, and pupils’ artwork.
Learning corners make pupils more curious. Instead of only listening to the teacher, they can observe, explore, ask questions, and learn by doing.
They also help slow learners because some children understand better when they can see and touch what is being taught.
A good learning corner should be simple, neat, safe, and connected to the current lesson. The teacher can change the materials weekly or whenever a new topic is introduced.
When pupils see their own work displayed in the learning corner, they feel proud and motivated to do better.
Teaching becomes more interesting when the classroom itself supports learning.
So, this week, try creating one small learning corner in your class. Start with what you have. A table, a wall space, a carton, or even one corner of the board can become a place of discovery.
A lively classroom does not always need expensive materials. Sometimes, it only needs a creative teacher. 📚✨
