Stages of pregnancy and little Medical care
First Trimester (Weeks 1–12)
What’s happening:
Baby’s organs begin to form
Mother may experience nausea, fatigue, mood changes
Medical care:
Pregnancy confirmation (urine/blood test)
First antenatal visit
Ultrasound to confirm gestational age and heartbeat
Blood tests (blood group, HIV, hepatitis, hemoglobin)
Folic acid supplementation
Counseling on nutrition, rest, and lifestyle
Second Trimester (Weeks 13–26)
What’s happening:
Baby grows rapidly; movement can be felt
Nausea often reduces; energy improves
Medical care:
Regular antenatal visits (monthly)
Ultrasound scan (anomaly scan) to check baby’s organs
Blood pressure, weight, and urine checks
Screening for anemia and gestational diabetes
Tetanus vaccination
Nutrition and exercise counseling
Third Trimester (Weeks 27–40)
What’s happening:
Baby gains weight and prepares for birth
Mother may experience back pain, swelling, frequent urination
Medical care:
More frequent antenatal visits (every 2 weeks, then weekly near term)
Monitoring baby’s position and heartbeat
Blood pressure and urine checks (for preeclampsia)
Birth plan discussion
Education on labor signs and breastfeeding
Final ultrasound if needed
After Delivery (Postnatal Care)
Medical care includes:
Mother: monitoring for bleeding, infection, blood pressure, mental health
Baby: immunizations, weight checks, feeding assessment
Counseling on breastfeeding, family planning, nutrition, and hygiene
