From the Sultan's Palace to Gawon Nama, from Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital to Binji and Shama Village, our message travelled across communities in Sokoto State.

On Saturday, members of UDUYARS took the Keep AMR Off the Plate campaign beyond classrooms and Bootcamp lessons, engaging directly with people where food is produced, sold, prepared, and consumed.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is often discussed in the context of medicines and hospitals, but the challenge extends far beyond that. Through a One Health lens, we see AMR as a shared threat at the intersection of human, animal, and environmental health.

The way we raise livestock, handle food, maintain hygiene, and use antibiotics in both humans and animals all contribute to the growing threat of resistant infections.

When antibiotics are misused on farms, when waste enters water sources, or when food safety slips, resistant bacteria donโ€™t stay in one place โ€” they move between animals, humans, and the environment.

Through community sensitization, we highlighted the important role that safe food practices play in preventing infections and reducing the need for antibiotics.

We stressed that protecting human health means also protecting animal health and our shared environment โ€” because AMR does not recognize boundaries.

From farmers and food vendors to consumers and healthcare professionals, everyone has a role to play in keeping our food systems safe and protecting the effectiveness of life-saving medicines.

This campaign reinforced a simple but powerful message: preventing infections is one of the most effective ways to combat AMR.

When food is handled safely, hygiene standards are maintained, and antibiotics are used responsibly, we reduce the spread of resistant microorganisms and help preserve these medicines for future generations.

We are thankful to the volunteers โ€” our foot soldiers โ€” whose dedication helped us extend the reach and widen the heat map of the AMR awareness.

Do we really practice hand hygiene as often as we think we do?

Hand hygiene remains one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent infections and slow the spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

Yet, public perception and everyday practice don't always align. Studies in Nigeria and elsewhere have consistently found gaps between awareness and actual hand hygiene behavior.

To better understand these realities, UDUYARS conducted a poll exploring public perceptions, habits, and attitudes towards hand hygiene as a tool for AMR prevention.

๐Ÿ“Š The findings reveal interesting trends, surprising gaps, and important opportunities for action.

The fight against antimicrobial resistance doesn't start in the hospital, it starts with the food we eat.

One unsafe meal can spread drug-resistant bugs across our community, but one safe choice can protect it.

Itโ€™s time to take action and keep AMR off our plates before it's too late.

UDUYARS is here with an Awareness Campaign across all campuses, and we want you there with us.

A single donation can change everything for someone in need. ๐Ÿฉธ

Safe blood saves lives, but it doesn't stop at donation. Every pint must be carefully screened and handled to protect patients from infections and other health risks.

As we continue the fight against antimicrobial resistance (AMR), preventing infections remains one of our strongest tools. Safe blood transfusion practices help protect patients and support better health outcomes.

Save a life and secure a future.

Happy World Blood Donor Day from all of us at UDUYARS! ๐Ÿฉธโœจ

๐Ÿงฌ Topic: Beyond the Lab Report: Turning AMR Data into Action

Numbers tell a storyโ€”but only if we know how to listen.

Ever wondered what happens after antimicrobial resistance (AMR) data is collected? How do surveillance reports move from spreadsheets and dashboards to real-world decisions that protect patients, guide treatment, and strengthen public health systems?

Join us for an engaging session with Muhammad Alimi, where we'll break down AMR data and surveillance in a practical, beginner-friendly way. Whether you're a student, healthcare professional, researcher, or simply curious about AMR, this session will help you understand how data drives action in the fight against antimicrobial resistance.

Bring your curiosity, your questions, and something to take notes with. This is your chance to learn how evidence becomes impact and how you can be part of the next generation advancing AMR surveillance and stewardship.

What we eat connects us all but only if it is safe ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ

Safe food handling helps prevent foodborne infections, reduces illness, and protects the effectiveness of the medicines we rely on.

Letโ€™s handle, cook, and store food safely to protect ourselves and our communities.

Happy World Food Safety Day from all of us at UDUYARS ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ
