GOVERNANCE STYLE OF DR. AHMAD ALIYU SOKOTO AND HIS ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE HEALTH SECTOR - AN APPRAISAL
Every leader has his own style of governance and strategic approach to implementing policies which he considers to be in the best interest of the people and a pathway to successful administration.
Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, FCNA, as Governor, has demonstrated a clear understanding of the importance of fulfilling the promises he made during the electioneering campaign for the establishment of a new government.
By the grace of God, upon assuming office as the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, he formulated a comprehensive Nine-Point Agenda (9-Point Agenda) outlining his developmental blueprint for the people of Sokoto State, with the provision of qualitative and accessible healthcare delivery as one of its core pillars.
Despite the laudable nature of these agenda and their underlying objectives, their realization requires adequate financial resources and legislative approval. Subsequently, the Government explored viable means of executing these projects.
Notwithstanding the fact that the health sector is a capital-intensive sector that consumes a huge chunk of government treasury, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu did not relent. He remained resolute and determined to identify the challenges bedeviling the sector and ensure that all obstacles hindering its progress were completely eliminated.
At this juncture, we call on the general public to objectively assess the level of progress recorded since the advent of Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto as Governor. Even his most ardent critic, if he possesses an iota of sincerity, will admit that today is far better than yesterday.
What is the current state of our hospitals today? Is there no significant progress in terms of recruitment of health personnel and improvement of staff welfare and salaries? What about the provision of free drugs for women, children and the aged?
On this basis, it is safe to conclude that the Governor has recorded about 75% success, particularly in his concerted efforts towards the rehabilitation and revitalization of General Hospitals in rural areas under the supervision of the Hospitals Services Management Board (HSMB).
For those facilities yet to be renovated, we wish to inform the public that this 75% achievement was recorded within just three years. And by the grace of God, as we anticipate, if Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto secures a second term mandate in 2027, there will be no hospital left untouched by this administration.
Let us vote again to ensure the consolidation and expansion of these developmental strides into other sectors.
The HSMB expresses its profound gratitude for the support and attention accorded to it under the able leadership of Dr. Bello Attahiru Abubakar.
May Almighty Allah grant us success. Amen
