Liver damage starts silently with fat buildup — and turns deadly if untreated.
Here are the stages of liver damage.
Liver damage doesn’t happen overnight—it’s a silent, progressive condition that can go unnoticed until serious complications arise.
It typically begins with fatty liver, where excess fat accumulates in liver cells due to poor diet, alcohol use, or metabolic issues like obesity or diabetes.
If the underlying causes persist, the liver becomes inflamed, leading to fibrosis, a stage marked by the gradual buildup of scar tissue that starts to interfere with normal liver function.
As damage advances, scar tissue spreads and replaces healthy liver tissue, progressing to cirrhosis—a condition where the liver is permanently scarred and its ability to function is severely reduced.
Without intervention, cirrhosis can open the door to liver failure or even liver cancer, due to ongoing cellular mutations. Because early liver damage often lacks clear symptoms, prevention through a healthy lifestyle and regular check-ups is essential for avoiding irreversible harm.
