STORY TIME...
THE SILENT HUSBAND
Everyone in the ward had noticed the man.
Every morning, he arrived before visiting hours.
Every night, he was the last person to leave.
He rarely spoke.
He didn't complain.
He didn't ask for special treatment.
He simply sat beside his wife's hospital bed and held her hand.
His wife, Linda, had been in the hospital for almost three weeks.
She was unconscious.
The doctors had explained that her condition was serious, and nobody knew exactly when she would wake up.
But her husband never stopped talking to her.
Sometimes he would whisper.
Sometimes he would simply sit in silence.
And sometimes, he would gently brush her hair away from her face.
One afternoon, a nurse entered the room and found him crying.
He quickly wiped his face.
"I'm sorry," he said.
"You don't have to apologize for crying," the nurse replied.
He smiled weakly.
"I just don't want her to wake up and see me crying."
The nurse looked at him.
"Why?"
He looked at his wife.
"Because she has always believed I'm the strong one."
The nurse didn't know what to say.
Then she noticed something strange.
Every evening, just before leaving, the man would take a small folded piece of paper from his pocket, read it quietly and put it back.
One day, curiosity got the better of her.
"What do you always read?"
He hesitated.
Then he smiled.
"It's a list."
"A list of what?"
"Things my wife taught me."
The nurse smiled.
"Can I ask what is on it?"
He unfolded the paper.
At the top were the words:
THINGS I MUST NEVER FORGET
Always say "I love you" before leaving the house.
Never go to bed angry.
Take care of the children.
Don't forget to eat when you're worried.
Keep praying when you don't understand what is happening.
The nurse's eyes filled with tears.
"She wrote this?"
He shook his head.
"No."
"Then who did?"
He looked at his wife.
"I did."
He explained that during their first year of marriage, his wife had nearly died from an illness.
That experience had changed him.
He had realized how quickly life could change.
So he began writing down every lesson she taught him.
The list had grown over the years.
Then one evening, something unexpected happened.
As he read the list beside her bed, he reached number six.
He stopped.
There was nothing written beside it.
The nurse noticed.
"What was number six supposed to be?"
He smiled through his tears.
"I haven't written it yet."
"What is it?"
He took his wife's hand.
"Whatever she teaches me when she wakes up."
The nurse left the room quietly.
The following morning, something incredible happened.
Linda opened her eyes.
Her husband was asleep beside her, still holding her hand.
She looked at him for a few seconds.
Then she whispered:
"Did you remember to eat?"
His eyes opened instantly.
He stared at her.
Then he started crying.
Linda smiled.
"You didn't follow number four, did you?"
He laughed through his tears.
"No."
She squeezed his hand.
"Then write this down."
He reached for his little notebook.
Linda looked at him and whispered:
"Never take a single ordinary day for granted."
He wrote it down.
And underneath it, he added:
"Number six."
🧑🏫 MORAL OF THE STORY
Sometimes love isn't loud.
Sometimes it's simply showing up every day, holding someone's hand, and refusing to give up hope.
Never take the ordinary moments with the people you love for granted. Those moments can become the memories you treasure most.
