Family is not always defined by blood. Sometimes, it is found in the people we meet along the way, the connections we nurture, and the spaces where we feel welcomed, supported, and understood.
In Māori culture, the concept of whānau speaks to the importance of family, belonging, relationships, and collective responsibility.
It reminds us that we are not meant to walk through life entirely on our own.
When we gather with openness and respect, something meaningful begins to grow.
We share knowledge.
We listen to different perspectives.
We learn from one another.
We create space for everyone to contribute.
And somewhere along the way, a group of individuals can begin to feel like something more, a community built on trust, care, and genuine connection.
Through our wānanga, these relationships are just as important as the teachings themselves.
Because what we carry home is not only what we have learned, but also the people we have shared the journey with.
Different backgrounds. Different stories. One shared sense of belonging.
