🌻 𝐆𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐩𝐞𝐭 𝐄𝐩𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐝𝐞 𝟔 | 𝐀 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐦

On the occasion of 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐃𝐚𝐲, Golden Carpet Episode 6 became a celebration of friendship in its many beautiful forms.

Sometimes, friendship appeared in shared painting moments, sometimes in a helping hand, sometimes in a warm hug, and sometimes simply in a child's smile. Through every colour of the mandala, every stroke on the canvas, and every friendship gift created, we witnessed moments of 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐣𝐨𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬.

One of the most special parts of the day was seeing parents and children bring their close friends along and share the experience together. To every friend who continues to walk alongside us, 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲.

Until we meet again, let's keep walking together towards a colourful journey ahead. 🌻

Her granddaughter is non-speaking, but with the help of an app on her phone, she can express her emotions, communicate when something hurts, and show her family what she needs. What may seem like a simple interaction becomes something incredibly meaningful: she communicates, her family understands, and her voice is heard.

Her story reminds us to move beyond asking, “Can they speak?” and instead ask a more important question: 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞?

Communication can happen through speech, technology, gestures, visuals, or many other forms. The method may be different, but the purpose remains the same: to express, connect, and be understood.

🌻 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠.

As children grow into adolescence and adulthood, they develop their own identity, preferences, and voice. This includes how they would like to be addressed and how they choose to identify themselves. While some may prefer 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧-𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞, others may feel more comfortable with 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐲-𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞.

Her message encouraged parents to pause and ask a simple but meaningful question: 'What does my child prefer?' What feels respectful to one individual may not feel the same to another, and recognising those preferences is an important part of supporting dignity, autonomy, and self-identity.

By listening to their voices and respecting how they wish to be seen and addressed, we create a more inclusive world where every individual feels valued for who they are.

This September, we're bringing together everyone for another meaningful Golden Carpet experience as we explore how inclusive swimming can open new possibilities for individuals and their families.

We look forward to welcoming you to another evening of learning, sharing, and meaningful conversations.
