Such sad news. Our thoughts are with Doug’s family and our friends and colleagues in Community Action Nepal.

It is with a very heavy heart that we inform you that our Founder, leader and great friend, Mr. Doug Scott, passed away peacefully this morning, at his home with his family around him.

Doug's family has asked for privacy at this time, but will be making a full and proper announcement in the coming days.

We thank you all for your care and support.

All of IPPG is saddened to learn of the death of Prakash Adhikari the CEO of the Himalayan Rescue Association Nepal 🙏 He was ‘s first Nepal representative and was committed to ensuring the safety of everybody visiting the mountains, trekkers & alike. A patient with Acute Appendicitis referred from Kunde Hospital has undergone successful surgery at KTM. We Kunde Hospital team are very glad that we were able to rescue the patient on time in this current situation of lockdown.

Fantastic!

The reduction of vehicular emission due to the lockdown has cleaned the air over Nepal and northern India. So much so that for the first time in many years, Mt can be seen again from Kathmandu Valley even though it is 200km away.

News travels fast . . .

The IPPG-CAN clinic in Machermo of Gokyo is located at 4,550m. wo mountain medicine clinics that have saved hundreds of lives of trekkers and porters in the Khumbu region of Nepal have been forced to close down by the local municipality, allegedly in collusion with a helicopter company that profits....

The end of an era . . . It is with great sadness that 17 years after being invited into the Gokyo Valley by the local community and Sagamartha National Park we have to announce the forced closure of the Machermo and Gokyo rescue posts.

A private clinic, linked to a private clinic in Kathmandu and a helicopter company, opened in the autumn in Gokyo and following this the Khumbu Pasang Lamu Rural Municipality have refused IPPG permission to continue to operate in the Gokyo Valley.

It has been a privilege to be the guests of the Sherpas and to serve them and the porters and trekkers visiting the valley. However it would seem that for some influential individuals our services are no longer welcome.

During the time that the posts have been open, hundreds of lives have been saved and thousands of people educated about altitude illness and porter welfare. We can only hope that the new private clinic places as much importance on caring for the tough, proud but vulnerable porters without whom it would be impossible to visit Nepal.

And so that’s a rap! Here we are at the end of what has been an amazing Post Monsoon season in the beautiful Gokyo Valley!

We’ve looked after 315 patients and have loved talking to over 1500 of you about altitude sickness in our talks.

We’ve been proud to provide almost free (20NPRs) healthcare to more than 150 porters and locals this season. With 3 successful evacuations of critically unwell porters who have had the same access to timely evacuations as the trekkers they’re working for.

As we make our way home in the freshly falling snow we’re so grateful for the communities that have welcomed us during our time in Nepal. It’s been an honour!
