For years I thought carrying pressure was part of being successful.

The bigger the role.
The bigger the responsibility.
The more pressure you carried.

At least that’s what I believed.

Now I see it very differently.

The most successful women I know aren’t successful because they carry more pressure.

They’re successful because they’ve learned how to create results without sacrificing themselves in the process.

Because pressure doesn’t make us more effective.

It simply makes everything feel important.

And when everything feels important...
we often end up paying for our success with pieces of our life.

Success should give you more life.

More energy, more presence, more joy, more freedom.

Looking back, I don’t think the biggest transformation in my life was healing my health, reducing my work hours or stepping into leadership roles I once thought were beyond me.

I think it was changing what I believed success required.

For years I believed...

✨ pressure created results
✨ exhaustion meant I was committed enough
✨ carrying everything was part of being responsible
✨ asking for support meant I wasn’t capable enough

And for a while, those beliefs seemed to work.

Until they didn’t.

Because eventually I realised something.

I was creating success...

but I wasn’t enjoying my life nearly as much as I wanted to.

The beliefs in this carousel weren’t learned overnight.

Most were learned through experience.

Some through tired eyes at midnight wondering why even after 15 hours working, it still didn’t feel enough.

Some through the pain of watching my body break down and realising it was carrying the cost of how I was living and working.

Some through finally asking better questions.

But every one of them helped me create a life that feels more impactful, more energising and far more joyful to live.

Because success shouldn’t feel like something you have to recover from. šŸ¤

I used to believe that too.

The more responsibility I had...
the more pressure I thought was normal.

Until I realised something surprising.

It’s that feeling in the evening

There was years of my career where my weeks regularly hit 80 hours because I felt lucky to have this job.

Looking back I realise that I idolised this company…

the ā€œcool cultureā€, the swanky offices looking over the Waiomata Harbour.

I had wanted to work there for nearly a decade too.

But working from the identity of feeling lucky to be there, you start proving you deserve it.

You check things again… just in case.

You prepare answers to questions no one has even asked.

You stay late because leaving ā€œon timeā€ feels uncommitted.

At the time I thought this meant I was ambitious and driven.

But something else was actually running the show.

An identity that said don’t drop the ball, don’t look incapable…

don’t let them think you’re not good enough

Years later something shifted.
Not my workload.
My identity.

Instead of
ā€œI’m lucky to be hereā€
it became
ā€œI bring serious value to this companyā€

And something surprising happened.

My work hours dropped from 80 to 40.

I was shutting my laptop at 6pm feeling proud of what I got done.

I landed a leadership promotion I’d had my eye on for years.

I haven’t done an intro post for a while so I wanted to introduce/reintroduce myself to you.

Hi my name is Anna, and I’ve been a health, mindset & leadership coach for the past few years…

I’m dedicated to helping high achievers end stress, triple their energy & achieve work faster so they reclaim their evenings & weekends to enjoy šŸ˜

My journey started after struggling with a life-threatening illness caused by 80-hour work weeks…

But I turned my life around by mastering stress management and holistic health, enabling me to create work-life balance whilst getting three promotions! šŸŽ‰šŸ„³

Here are a few facts about me…

✨ I came to NZ in 2004, at the midpoint of a round-the-world backpacking trip with my partner of 27 years, Will.

I fell in love with NZ, got a new passport, and never left! šŸ˜

✨ I made a huge scientific breakthrough during my chemistry degree…

But then spent 20 years in leadership roles in commercial finance, often wondering what more I could have done in chemistry.

After a big wake-up call during the 2017 London Bridge terrorist attack, I realised it was time to make a bigger difference in the world…

So I retrained as a coach, going back to my science roots!

✨ I’m a massive foodie, obsessed with creating healthy & tasty recipes...
