The death of my Instagram and what I’ve lost, and what I’ve gained. The collapse of illusions.
I was addicted to social media.
I was occupied in every moment, even when I wasn’t on my phone. I was still thinking about what to post. Constantly checking, scrolling or thinking about what to post.
And the one day, it disappeared.
The universe took away the biggest distraction in my life.
My account was disabled, I exhausted every avenue in attempt to recover it. It all came to a dead end.
At some point I had to face all the things that were coming up. Something told me sit with it, sit with the grief, anger, shame.
It was hard to confront my attachment to the number of followers, to the engagement. Things I had convinced myself I didn’t care for. It was hard to let go of something I had invested so much time in.
I started doing my research on people that actively deleted their accounts and how much it changed their life. I started educating myself a little bit more about these platforms and what they really do. So I started seeing the other side of the coin.
There’s this paradox of having to look at this old cycle that I’ve been doing, seeing the good the bad and the ugly. And on the other hand, something new is forming. And I don’t know what it is yet but it feels like it’s a different path.
I’m grateful for the space to connect with so many people, to connect in community. And I think that’s the great loss for me, however something clicked as well. Maybe this is where I keep digging and how am I gonna show up more beyond the platform.
There’s peace now within me.
I trust in the opening pathway and where it will lead me. I’ll continue to listen, write, create and truly be in the present moment. See you there!
