Everyone struggles with the challenges that come with being human at some stage in life. Having the courage to seek support is a vital step in taking control of your own life experience.
Professional support for mental fitness and wellbeing is offered by counsellors, coaches, psychologists and therapists.
If you’re not sure where to start, ask your GP for advice. Some health clinics even have Health Coaches and Health Improvement Practitioners (HIPS) available for free, walk-in, confidential chats.

What does a coach do?

Coaches are filling every niche you can imagine. If there’s anything you want help with, it’s almost guaranteed that there is a coach out there specialising in that area where their unique life experience and expertise can offer tailored support from a place of deep caring and understanding.

As a Mind Coach, I work with people who want to find relief from an overburdened, anxious or heavy mind. You’re not crazy, it’s part of the human condition to struggle with challenging thoughts, feelings and emotions.
I provide confidential support and tools that help my clients navigate life by gaining understanding about how they can take back control of the super-computer inside their skull.

The aim: Get your mind working for you rather than against you.

You’re in control

Remember, you are in charge of your own wellbeing, so keep seeking support until you find someone who creates a confidential, non-judgemental space where you feel heard and safe to process the often messy challenges that can tangle up our head space.
Don’t be afraid to look for support elsewhere if the first or even tenth person doesn’t feel right to you. Your wellbeing is the priority, so finding support that leaves you feeling supported is essential.
This doesn’t mean talking about uncomfortable thoughts, feelings and events is easy or painless, having the courage to feel discomfort is - uncomfortable. But it’s incredibly empowering, and gives you the best chance of moving through challenges with new tools and knowledge that facilitate healing and positive personal growth.

If you don’t know where to start, or you’ve had trouble finding support, please feel free to reach out by sending me a private message.
Sadly our current health system is lacking resources and trained professionals, resulting in wait lists from months to years.
With public health services unable to meet the growing demand for support in our communities,
Mental Health Coaches like myself are passionate about helping to fill the growing gaps in our system.

As a relatively new profession, we understand the hesitation to give coaching a try, which is why many of us offer free or discounted discovery sessions for you to see if it’s something that might be helpful to you.
Every coach is a unique individual, so I encourage you to remember that your wellbeing is the top priority, and we support you to find a coach who is the best fit for you - i.e. if you talk to me and it doesn’t feel right, you’re not stuck with me, and I would be more than happy to help you find support that works for you ;)

Developing emotional intelligence requires us to see our emotions as information, and then launch an honest enquiry to uncover what value that emotion is challenging or aligning with.
Emotions are cues for action. Not just any action, not a reaction, but a considered choice that aligns with your values.

Empathy, sympathy, or something else?

What do you think is the "best" or most effective form of emotional support we can offer someone when they're experiencing difficult emotions?
Why? (No judgement, just curiosity!)

Note - from the definitions I've read for Empathy and Sympathy, I get the impression you don't "choose" either response. This is person and circumstance specific from my interpretation. But I'm super curious to hear what other people think about these words and your experience of them. Check out various definitions and comparisons online, they vary. Do the descriptions match what these words mean to you?

You're doing the best with the mind you have today.

If it doesn't feel like it, perhaps this is a gentle prod to begin consciously choosing how you want to think, feel and experience the world.
How do you want to respond to situations rather than react?
Begin the life-changing work of rewiring your brain to reflect who you truely want to be.

Begin by choosing how you want to feel, and allow your imagination to take you to that place.

Rehearse this feeling over and over as frequently as you can, and your brain will remodel itself to become efficient at replicating this feeling and seeing your life through the lens of someone who embodies this feeling frequently.

Today's diary entry was inspired by a conversation between Dr. Joe Dispenza and Steven Bartlett on The Diary of a CEO podcast.

Check In

- What do you need right now?
- Peace? Action? Solitude? Collaboration? Rest?
Movement? Creativity? Information? Time to think?

- What would benefit your body right now?

- What is the state of your mind right now?
- What might improve it?

- Can you notice any emotions present?
- Where in your body do you feel the emotion?

Once you've checked in with the present moment, you may wish to expand to desires, goals and values to help guide your next actions.

- What brings you joy, excitement and motivation?

- How would your ideal day begin?

- If you could make one change to your life today, what would have the most positive impact?

- Are you taking actions that align with your values daily?
- What are your values at this point in your life?
- In what area of your life are you not embodying your values as much as you'd like to?

If these questions seem like a lot, consider puttinf time side to allow space for exploratory thoughts to arise.
Journalling can be extremely useful to help us clarify our desires and get to know 'me' better by asking ourself questions and seeing out thoughts spelled out and separated from the rapid firings across the complex network of the human brain.

Step back from the linear thoughts and behavioural patterns and processes that feel uncomfortable to you. Others caught in conditioned conformity may be unsettled an disapproving of your independent, unconventional choices.

Some may be annoyed by your freedom and joy that seems to arise without having completed the 'check points' our culture has deemed necesary requirements to achieve happiness.

You may be misunderstood, even condemned and ridiculed for deviating from the rescribed route. But as Mel Robbins says - Let Them.
Let them feel how they choose.
Let them think what they want.
Let them remain within the limits they assign to themselves.

But don't let them decide how you think, feel and act.
Don't let anyone set limits on your behalf.

What does Coaching do?
This 😂... and some.

A coach creates a space for you to think out loud, acknowledge your struggles, celebrate your courage, and support you moving forward.

The number one priority of a coach is to create a safe space in which your needs are the only thing on the agenda.

A coach doesn't direct, they guide a client to clarity and positive action by inviting the curious exploration of goals and challenges.

Most people know what they need to do, but without a safe space to process and supportive confidant, finding clarity and taking positive action can feel really hard.

Get unstuck. Get a coach. 😘
