SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS SERIES:
🔸️RASH🔸️
When performing our self checks it's important we get used to the normal LOOK of our breasts & chest area. Looking down at them & also looking in the mirror to get used to your normal. How do they usually sit? What is your usual shape & size, & how does this change throughout your cycle? Of equal importance is your skin.
Making sure to notice any skin changes such as a new or unusual rash.
A rash is an area of skin that has changes in texture, appearance & colour. So knowing how things normally look is so important to be able to notice sometimes subtle changes. A breast rash is redness or irritation that occurs on the skin of the breast which can also look inflamed & be itchy, scaly, painful or blistered.
While a rash on your breast is most likely to be caused by an infection, allergic reaction or common skin condition such as eczema or dermatitis; in rare cases it can also be a symptom of breast cancer.
A change in breast colour or skin condition, with progressive reddening or inflammation, needs to be checked out swiftly to exclude a rare but fast growing inflammatory breast cancer. The skin is often thickened and may have a rash that looks like orange peel (referred to as "peau d'orange"). Redness, or sometimes a pink flush, occupies at least one-third of the breast, and sometimes it may have a bruised appearance. These symptoms can often be confused with a breast infection, but important to know these changes will not respond to antibiotics.
Next time you're performing your self check make sure to take an extra conscious LOOK at the skin & appearance of your breasts and chest area & as usual if anything has changed or doesn't feel right, see your doctor.
