What is it that brings Argentinians together on the other side of the world to watch a football match?
I found myself wondering that this morning as we shared mate, medialunas, laughter, hugs, and that unique mix of nerves and excitement that only comes with watching Argentina play.
Many of our family stories include people who left their homeland because of war, hunger, persecution, or in search of a better future. They arrived in a new country, learned a new language, adapted to different customs, and built a life from the ground up. Today, in different ways, many of us are living a similar experience.
We choose to build a life in another country. We learn new ways of doing things. We create a sense of home while carrying with us the culture, memories, and stories that shaped who we are. Perhaps that's why moments like this touch us so deeply.
For a little while, we're not just watching a football match. We're sharing a language, familiar traditions, laughter, hugs, mate, and the joy of celebrating together. And we're reminded of something deeply human:
We can put down roots in a new place without letting go of where we come from.
Thank you to everyone who shared this morning with us. 💙🤍
Thousands of kilometres from Argentina, we were reminded that home is not only a place.
Sometimes, it's the people who help us feel that we belong.
