How long can you stand on one leg for with your eyes closed? 👀

Most people think they have pretty good balance... until they close their eyes.

Balance isn’t just about avoiding a wobble. It’s your body’s ability to know where your joints are in space and react accordingly.

If you struggle to hold a single-leg stance for more than 10 seconds with your eyes closed, it may suggest your body’s feedback system isn’t working as efficiently as it could be. This can contribute to recurring injuries, persistent niggles, and joints that don’t feel confident or stable under load.

The good news?

Balance is trainable. 💪

Give it a try:
✔️ Stand on one leg
✔️ Close your eyes
✔️ Time yourself

Think of your body like a bank account 💰

And think of strength training, rehab, and exercise as your savings.

Every day, you spend from your body’s bank account. Whether that’s sitting at a desk for hours, doing repetitive movements at work, lifting children, gardening, or heading out for a half marathon on the weekend, all places demands on your body.

To keep your account healthy, you need to make deposits too. That’s where strengthening exercises, mobility work, recovery, and looking after your body come in.

Most of the time, we can find a good balance between spending and saving, and our bodies cope really well.
But sometimes the spending starts to outweigh the savings.

Maybe you’ve started training for a marathon and increased your running but haven’t done any strength work to support it. Or perhaps you spend all day sitting at a desk or bending repeatedly at work without doing anything to counteract those positions. Over time, your account can slip into overdraft, and that’s often when pain starts to appear.

When this happens, it’s important to reduce the withdrawals and increase the deposits. By temporarily reducing aggravating activities and building strength, mobility, and resilience, you can start bringing that balance back into the positive.

The goal isn’t to stop doing the things you love. It’s to make sure you’re investing enough into your body so it can continue doing them.

And if you’re not sure where to start, that’s where we come in. At The Physio Barn, we can help you find the right balance, keep your account in the black, and get you back to doing what matters most. 💪🏻

Ready to take your rehab to the next level? 💪🏻

The Physio Barn is a great place to start your rehabilitation journey, and for many people we can create effective programs that can be completed entirely at home.

But sometimes, once your pain settles and your confidence grows, you may feel ready to add a bit more load and build strength in a gym environment. This is something I can help with too.

Here’s Jacqui, one of my clients who is managing a few different injuries. One of her goals was to get back into the gym safely, with a program tailored specifically to her needs and guided by a physiotherapist.

We meet at the gym every few weeks to work through her program, progress exercises as she’s able, and ensure she’s using the correct technique to get the most out of each session. Having that support and guidance can make a huge difference to confidence, strength, and long-term recovery.

Whether you’re recovering from an injury, returning to exercise after surgery, or simply wanting some guidance on how to train safely, I can design a personalised gym program and help you work towards your goals.

If you’re at the stage where you’re ready to challenge yourself a little more and build strength with confidence, get in touch, I’d love to help.
