Test participants sought in Dunedin Ōtepoti

Kia ora, until relatively recently I was an Ass Prof at the University of Otago. Since then my team and I have been working on the development of a new textile to make wet wrapping (a technique used to hydrate and calm skin of those with eczema or aging issues) easier to do.

In the lab we used synthetic skin to test our developments. Now we need to test two prototypes on healthy living skin to ensure it works in real life on real skin as well as it worked in the lab. We want to ensure the product does what we found it did in the lab before we trial on those with eczema.

I need volunteers to sit in the lab at the University in Dunedin for ~3 hours wearing wraps on their arms while I measure their skin hydration hourly.

The process is painless, easy (as you can just read a book, or chat with me🙃) and as a thank you I can offer a $50.00 new world voucher.

I need volunteers with normal skin, who are aged between 18 and 51 yo.

If you’d like to help please email me at [email protected] and we can arrange a test date that works for you

Wet wrap therapy is one of the main methods of treatment for atopic dermatitis, eczema, an inflammatory and relapsing skin disease. If you have every experienced wet wrapping using the traditional bandages you will know that it’s not easy but that wrapping plays an important role in the easing of the itch and the healing of the eczema. Our goal is to make the process easier to apply, easier to wear, and more effective for you.

My team started working on the development of a new 21 century technology in 2019 using facilities and expertise at the University of Otago. If you follow our page I’ll introduce you to the team in follow up posts. Suffice to say, an academic and industry multidisciplinary team of technologists, knitters, a Dermatologist, and Clothing and Textile Scientists.

We are now, at last, verifying our laboratory results by testing on adult volunteers with healthy skin (from 23 April 2025). Next stage assuming our results confirm effectiveness will be to examine performance on people with eczema. If you would like to be a participant in the adult skin study or a part of the Phase II study examining effectiveness when used with those with eczema, please get in touch. Testing is being conducted in Dunedin. If you would like to be involved in our testing or would like to go on our email list for further information about findings, please email me.
