Most people blame their products for skin that won’t settle. Sometimes that’s true. But often it’s the same handful of habits running quietly underneath and no product can outwork those.

Save this one. 💜

Back in 2021 I did something that felt very big for a brand still finding its feet.

I had the opportunity to be part of Australias Retreat Yourself Boxes. I ended up choosing the Balance & Glow Face oil to go in the box. It was the first product I ever launched, the one that started everything, and suddenly I had 2,000 of them that needed to be made, labeled, packaged, and shipped to Australia.

By hand. By me. Over several months. Alongside everything else that comes with running a business on your own.

I remember being nervous the whole time. I’d never shipped that kind of volume across to Australia before. I worried they’d break. I worried they’d get lost and that would of been a huge cost to me. I just kept going anyway.

When the boxes landed and the tags started rolling in, women all over Victoria, Queensland, NSW, WA opening their boxes and trying Akaia for the first time. It felt like proof of something. That this little brand from Gisborne actually had a place in the world.

96% of those women said they’d recommend Akaia to a friend. 80% said they’d buy again. Some of them still do, popping back to reorder that same oil years later, nothing else, just quietly loyal.

I’m glad I said yes. I’m glad I did the work. Every time another business chooses to collaborate with Akaia it’s a reminder that what we’re building here means something.

And honestly…if you don’t try, you can’t win. 💜🤍

Dry, dull skin often isn’t just about moisture, it’s about nourishment.

When skin lacks essential nutrients and lipids, it can start to look tired, flat, and lose its natural glow.

That’s where nourishing plant oils can help.

Balance & Glow Face Oil is formulated with nutrient-rich oils like organic rosehip, organic jojoba and cold pressed sweet almond to help support the skin barrier, soften dry skin and restore natural radiance.

Sometimes a few nourishing drops really can make all the difference. 🌱🤍

There’s a trend going around called “Clocked In vs Clocked Out” and it felt like the perfect way to show a little life behind Akaia.

Running a business isn’t easy. Finding balance isn’t either.

Clocked In looks like formulating products, filling jars, labelling batches, packing orders, posting on social media, writing marketing emails and replying to every message that comes through. 🩷

It’s slow, careful work, and every product that leaves here is made with intention and care.

But Clocked Out matters too.
Coffee with friends.
Beach walks.
Good food.
Moving my body.
Moments that refill the cup.

Akaia has always been about balance. Not just for skin, but for life too.

Because when we slow down and take care of ourselves, our skin usually thanks us for it.

Are you feeling more clocked in or clocked out lately? 🤍

You might notice a slight colour difference in some batches of our Day Cream.

This comes down to natural variation in tomato-derived ingredients. The formula itself hasn’t changed — the ingredient list, function, and skin experience remain exactly the same.

Same day cream. Same calm skin support 🤍🧡

I see this come up over and over again with customers who come to Akaia.

So many people tell me they started “taking care of their skin” in their 20s, using stronger actives, fragranced products, or complicated routines, because they thought that was what responsible skincare looked like.

But what I see, time and time again, is skin that’s become reactive, inflamed, or constantly flaring because its barrier was never properly supported in the first place.

Barrier supportive, fragrance free skincare is about giving your skin consistency, calm, and protection. Not asking it to constantly adapt to new ingredients, new trends, or sensory overload.

That looks like:
🌸 Choosing fragrance-free formulas to reduce irritation and sensitisation
🤍 Supporting the skin barrier daily, not just when something goes wrong
🌱 Keeping routines simple so the skin can actually repair and strengthen over time

This works because your skin barrier is your first line of defence. When it’s supported, everything else works better! Hydration, resilience, and long-term skin health included.

If your skin feels easily overwhelmed right now, it doesn’t mean you’ve failed skincare… it means your skin is asking for gentler, more consistent support.

What’s one small shift you could make to better support your skin barrier today?
