🌿 PERIMENOPAUSE — THROUGH A MĀORI LENS 🌿
Perimenopause isn’t something we need to hide, apologise for, or simply “put up with”.
For many wāhine, this is a time of whakawhiti — a transition from one stage of life into another.
Our tinana is changing.
Our hormones are shifting.
Our emotions may feel closer to the surface.
Our energy, sleep, relationships and sense of self can all be affected.
But perhaps this season is not about losing who we were…
Perhaps it is about meeting the wāhine we are becoming. ✨
From a Māori perspective, wellbeing is not just about the physical body.
It is about the connection between tinana, hinengaro, wairua and whānau.
So this wāhanga of life invites us to ask:
🌿 What is my tinana asking me to slow down and listen to?
🌿 What no longer serves my hinengaro?
🌿 What is my wairua trying to reconnect me with?
🌿 Who am I becoming as a wāhine?
🌿 What boundaries do I need to strengthen?
🌿 What mātauranga can I reclaim and pass on?
Perimenopause can be uncomfortable, messy and bloody confusing 🫤but it can also be a powerful rite of passage.
We are not broken.
We are not “too emotional”.
We are not past our prime.
We are transitioning.
He wā hou.
He wahine hou.
He mana hou. ❤️
Kia whakarongo ki tō tinana.
Kia tiaki i tō wairua.
Kia manaaki i a koe anō.
Because sometimes the greatest transformation begins when we stop fighting our changing body… and start listening to what she is telling us. 🌺
