I'm a huge advocate for moving while your kids do sport. I mean, why not?

Kids' winter sports season means plenty of time on the sidelines, and I've come to love using those pockets of time to move. A brisk walk, a few minutes on the mat, or even a cheeky sprint 🫣 (not that I'm any good at that)

Quite often parents say, "I saw you doing that and thought it was such a good idea."

Come and join in!

One of the things I love most about movement is that it doesn't always require the perfect time, place, or setup. Some of the best sessions happen well outside the studio or gym.

The world is our playground, after all. 🏃‍♀️

I’m proud to share that Mangawhai's only Comprehensive Pilates studio is now quietly open and welcoming clients. Pinch me!

A space grounded in thoughtful movement, warmth, depth, and the incredible Pilates apparatus system designed to support your wellbeing for a more connected movement experience.

Lower back feeling a little stiff?

Try this quick standing sequence for gentle relief. It’s simple, effective, and helps restore movement through the areas that often get a bit “stuck” during the day.

The keys here are:

🗝️ Thoracic rotation: This encourages movement through the mid-back so the whole spine can share the load. As Dr. Brent Anderson says, “distribution of movement = distribution of force.” When the lower back feels tight, improving movement elsewhere in the spine can often help reduce that tension.

🗝️ Pelvic dissociation: Standing pelvic tilts both front to back and side to side, along with pelvic clocks help the pelvis move independently from the ribcage. These gentle patterns signal the larger global muscles to relax while the deeper stabilising muscles switch on with a subtle supportive engagement.

🗝️ Fluid hip movement: Imagine the hip joints as well-oiled ball-and-socket joints. Let the movement feel smooth and continuous rather than forced.

🗝️ Slow, controlled motion: Keep the range small and comfortable. Smooth, mindful movement is more beneficial than pushing for bigger range.
