When you arrive on your mat, the rest of the world dissapears. It doesn't matter if your mat is in a class, by your bed, in your office or outside. It is a zone you step into to receive.
The time on your mat is time just for you... not to take care of everyone else, tick off the to do list or rush around getting things done. It is time for you to fill your tank so that you can then feel great and be more able to get the things done and take of others.
Yoga is a science, an art and a discipline. It has been practiced for many centuries with it's benefits widely appreciated all over the world.
Many people begin going to Yoga because the think they probably should - feeling tight, weak or stressed.
Many people begin their Yoga practice for the Asana - the movement. The unique combinations of movements take your body into positions that it wouldn't do in any other form of exercise. It strengthens and stretches parts of the body you don't even realise exist!
Then often after becoming committed to the Asana practice, many people stay for the numerous other factors within Yoga such as the pranayama (breathing practices) and the meditation, feeling the benefits extend from the body into the mind and whole self - both on and off the mat.
Regular classes which involve Asana, pranayama and meditation have the following benefits:
- Strengthening and toning the entire body - aiding weight loss and injury prevention
- Improving flexibility and releasing tense, achy, sore muscles
- Calming the mind, reducing overthinking, overwhelm, worry, anxiety and depression
- Improving breathing habits, strengthening the lungs which then greately improves energy
- Balancing the nervous system, reducing baseline stress hormone production which creates a general feeling of calm - more happy, patient and tolerant, able to cope with life's ups and downs.
- Improved sleep
Also classes are a great place to meet others in a supportive community :-)
My classes are all inclusive - we have men and women from their 20s to 60s, with a wide variety of ability and experience.
There is no pressure, nothing woo woo, just an opportunity to enjoy moving, breathing and relaxing to feel great.
So....
