💛 Safe Sleep Day – Friday 5 June 💛

Today is Safe Sleep Day, a reminder that every pēpi deserves a safe sleep, every sleep.

In Aotearoa, around 40–60 babies die each year from Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy (SUDI), many of which are preventable. This year’s message from Hāpai Te Hauora is simple but powerful:

✨ Make every sleep a safe sleep ✨

The Foundations for Safe Sleep are:

🛏️ Face up, face clear
🛏️ Flat and firm
🛏️ Free from smoke, v**e, alcohol and drugs
🛏️ Fathers & Family – everyone has a role in keeping pēpi safe

Whether it’s a daytime nap, overnight sleep, or staying away from home, safe sleep practices matter every time.

At Helensville Birthing Centre, we’re proud to support whānau with safe sleep education and resources to help give pēpi the safest possible start in life. 💕

We are proud to officially introduce our new Board Chair, Hilary McKenzie 💙

A fourth-generation local, mum of three boys, successful business owner, and long-time supporter of Helensville Birthing Centre, Hilary brings both strong community connection and extensive leadership experience to the role.

Having previously served as Deputy Chair, Hilary is passionate about protecting and strengthening local maternity care, ensuring whānau continue to have access to timely, wraparound support close to home.

Her vision for the future of HBC is grounded in sustainability, unity, informed choice, and empowerment for the families we care for every day.

We are incredibly excited for this next chapter and look forward to Hilary leading the Centre alongside our dedicated team and community.

Kia ora whānau 🤍

Together, Parent Aid and Helensville Birthing Centre would like to share an update regarding our Wednesday Drop-In Midwifery Clinic.
Due to changes in funding, this service will no longer continue. Our final clinic will be held on Wednesday 13 May.

We know how valued this clinic has been for many whānau, and this has been a thoughtful and considered decision. We are incredibly proud of the collaboration between our teams and the support this service has provided to the Helensville community.

While this chapter is closing, both services remain here for you.

Helensville Birthing Centre will continue to provide:
– Midwifery clinic / Milk Café | Fridays 10am–1pm (chat, kai, coffee, support and connection)
– Immunisations by appointment ([email protected])
We warmly encourage you to come along — this space continues to be an important part of our community.
We’re also excited to share that HBC is expanding their immunisation service, with plans to support pēpi and tamariki up to 1 year of age — watch this space.
Wāhine Wellness services will also continue, with further updates to come.

Parent Aid remains here for the community, continuing to offer in-home support for whānau.

To the mothers with babies in their arms,
the mothers growing their babies,
the mothers longing to become mothers,
and the mothers carrying babies in their hearts instead of their hands.

To those navigating loss, fertility journeys, grief, exhaustion, healing, joy, or all of it at once — we see you.

Motherhood is not always simple, and today can hold many emotions.

Our HBC Milk Bank began as a quiet hope within our QA team — a vision to support our tiniest and most vulnerable pēpi when they need it most.

All these years later, that dream is a reality. What started as a simple idea has grown into a life-changing service for families across Aotearoa.

And today, we’re excited to share a very special announcement — one that marks the next chapter for our Milk Bank and the pēpi we serve. 💛💙
